Behmor coffee roaster - GREAT service
Comments (5)That's great news. I stopped roasting about ten years ago when my wife was expecting our first child. The smell of smoke throughout the house and all day morning sickness were a bad mix. I never got into it, mostly because of the improved quality and freshness of coffee that is now available, but nothing is as good as the stuff I made myself. I've been curious about the efficiency of the Behmore catalytic converter. I now have a decent kitchen exhaust fan so that will definitely help, but I'm curious how well you find the smoke is eliminated. In the old days the whole house would smell for at least a day....See MoreGREAT Price on Sweet Maria's top corn popper/coffee bean roaster
Comments (13)A year ago i found my old popper after running across a video and discussions on a coffeegeek forum. I've been using a chemex drip method for a few years and was researching a new grinder around that same time. I thought the home roasting was a bit nuts but keep the thought on a back burner... Now it is just an easy task i do when i'm in the kitchen anyway. Usually a weekend morning where we are anyway together, planning our day. I still have a favorite Costco bean, the yellow bag. I've even forgotten the name it's been so long. Took a few bags on our trip last summer. (but ran out and had to buy overpriced cans, gack!). Might have to pack a popper and green beans this summer. Watch a few videos and decide if it might be worth it to you....See MoreInstant Read Thermometers...How long is 'instant?'
Comments (9)Thermapen is worth every penny. You can use it on meat, baked goods, whatever. It really reads in under three seconds. It was really hard for me not to order one of the splash-proof ones to replace my "ancient" one when I was buying them as Holiday gifts. Most "instant" read thermometers on the market don't cut it. 6-10 seconds isn't instant. I want to open the oven/grill - go in to two or three places, and get out. The CDN quick-read units are pretty good as well; 5 or 6 seconds, for about $20 for the DTQ450X -- look for the ones that have the "turned down" (smaller diameter) tips for the last 1/2" or so. Whole Foods sometimes has these, and I see them at Amazon as well. Mechanical dial thermometers don't ever fall in the "instant" category for me. (Baked goods will often hold at below 200 until done, then shoot up when the moisture starts leaving as steam.)...See MoreGreat gift ideal for coffee drinkers
Comments (12)When I give a store $5.00 and get a $5.00 certificate in return, they get a benefit. But I don't see one for me. I give them a piece of paper that can buy stuff in 3,000 stores in town. And get a piece of stuff in return that has value in only one. I tell my clients that if they're giving a benefit, they should get one --- unless they're giving to charity. Starbucks ain't no charity. Now ... if they get my $5.00 cash money today ... ... and have to part with the merchandise sometime later (or, maybe, never, if the recipient loses the card) ... ... and give me $6.00 value, then I figure that there's benefit going both ways. When one makes such a suggestion to stores, they look at you as though you have two heads. ole joyful...See More- 10 years ago
