what kind of dinette set goes here?
Comments (12)I guess I'd say its soft contemporary. I think the barstools are more modern though. The room with the TV- well some of that is more Mission/ comtemporay blend. The couch in there- designers all say "are you keeping that?" So I know its a bit tacky but I don't care. But I really hate the farm table with my stuff. The rug in the dining room is not my choice but its what I've got. $2500 max. I have a friend that can get me a good deal on Saloom. If money were not a factor, I think I'd like a tulip table and this Saarinen chair. However, I have to be realistic. I haven't seen a nice knock off of that chair, or tested it for comfort. Then again, maybe I'd like to go more transitional. See, I like both styles. Here is a link that might be useful: Sarrinen chair...See MoreWhat kind of chair do I pair with this desk?
Comments (31)A comfortable one. Not a pro. More interested in comfort and function than "style". Suggest you sit in any chair you're considering buying and at least consider a chair w/short armrests (short horizontally) for resting your elbows but not necessarily the full length of your arms -- arm rests that will not interfere w/placing the chair as far beneath the desk as possible. Allergy noted. If not a chair with casters/wheels, choose one with or add glider feet so you could move it around easily w/o scratching the floor so you can be sitting where you need to be to use the desk. Do measure the height of the table from floor to the top of the table -- the total table height. Do measure the vertical knee space -- the height between the floor and the bottom of the table at its center point. Make sure the chair you choose has you sitting high enough to actually be comfortable using the chair with the desk. Unless you're wanting to add your favorite bold color to the room, choose black because it will be neutral and because the desk appears to be either very dark gray or black. If you're actually planning to use this desk as a desk, then limiting yourself to something akin to a formal dining room chair makes no sense at all unless you're more interested in appearance than function. You might even consider an upscale swivel bar stool in lieu of a traditional chair. https://alfabarstools.com/shop/comfortable-custom-height-captains-bar-stool-arms/ https://shopping.diamondbackbilliards.com/product/s6225-swivel-bar-stool/...See MoreDecorating a home office with beige carpet, bamboo desk and red chair
Comments (11)@JustMe Here is a rough drawing with dimensions of the office. My desk is on the longest wall. The window at the bottom of the drawing. My desk is about 72" and I've been seriously thinking of getting a different wood desk top that is smaller at about 63" to fit on that wall space next to the door. Something like a mesquite desktop or something. My desk is a standing desk so I'll be keeping the black base. The reason why I didn't put my desk against the window is mainly because of the giant monitor that is on an arm that wouldn't let me look outside anyways but I'm open to options. I do really think that my desk is way to big though. Also, the closet(which is at the bottom left of the picture in case its hard to tell has built in bookshelves. Although shelve space is always good, I've been looking at tons of wall shelves to utilize the vertical space more. I also added some more offices I liked to my profile. I'm a big fan of the contrasting natural colors and I want to incorporate live plants and such as well....See MoreWhat kind of flooring goes with barnwood walls?
Comments (10)Is the laminate in good shape? I ask because I don't really feel the problem is the laminate, it's the heavy color on the fireplace and built-ins. The first thing I would do is paint the fireplace brick and built-ins the same white color/finish as your trim. I'd also use a heatproof black spray paint and paint out the brassy surround. That will help to immediately make the room feel fresher and more current. I think it will also look much nicer with the siding. You could then make a decision if you still feel the flooring doesn't work, but I think it will probably look just fine. With the fireplace and built-ins painted white, everything you currently own will still work. A little blue always adds a little life to a room, and can be introduced in blue-and-white porcelain, a throw pillow, etc. But these are really small changes, and I think the biggest difference will be made with the paint....See More- 8 years ago
