Need gift suggestions for 13-to-18-year-olds
Comments (8)It's a good idea this year NOT to buy gift cards to specific stores. There's really no way of knowing which ones will still be around in January. I don't think a gift card is really the right way to go for the kind of situation you describe, but if you do feel that's the best choice, get a MALL gift card--that way, it can be used in any store, for clothes, books, music, etc, and all the stores in any given mall are unlikely to go out of business. For kids that age--if you can get an idea of sizes, casual clothes are always good. A winter coat might be needed and appreciated. Girls--maybe a craft kit to make jewelry or something else sparkly, or any bath, body, nail, make-up stuff is generally up their alley. Boys--sporting goods. Books, if you think they'd enjoy them, although picking books for kids you don't know is a challenge. Would you be allowed to buy tickets to a play, concert or sporting event and take them yourself? That would be an awesome gift, but it might not be possible in the situation. Of course, if you can find out what each child's specifically interested in, you'll be home free--much easier, if you can get that info somehow. And thanks for taking an interest and helping someone who surely needs someone who cares....See MoreHelp with 12 yr old girl gift. S.A Angel Tree so want it to be good!
Comments (51)Yes, I did briefly (and now even more) worry about overspending on one. At my local S.A tree they have sibling tree cards together. My gal Natie was not a combo. So, Tina, should I just not give the wish list part (camera or skates) but give the rest to my girl? Not give poor little Natie these very cool skates? Boo hoo. Really though, I have spent enough. Or, should I take what I have to the gift Tree volunteers, show them what I've got and ask if it should be split? Edited to add: strangely there were mostly boys left on my local angel tree. I'm wondering if it's because their wish list had some expensive things on it. Not much under $140. I know this because my squeaky butt husband was standing at the tree looking stuff up on his phone and then being embarrassingly loud about it. Or, maybe people just prefer to buy for girls? I did ask the volunteers about the many boys on the tree and she did say that every year they have all been taken up by givers. I'm thinking with all the money in my area of Florida combined with the large percent of snowbird wealthy retired people that angel tree kids around here tend to get overspent on. I do think it's a bit more normal. My husband along with others does a toy drive every year and just off that one place three large truck loads of toys will go out. There are hundreds maybe thousands of such toy drives in my county. Mtn, I have always in the past just given money to different causes at Christmas. This is my first time actually getting a kid, a kid with a name and sizes and wants. It's so very addicting!!! In fact it's even more than that as I'm an empty nester. I don't have any kids to buy for and that bites....See MoreGift ideas: 13 yr old girl I don't know
Comments (11)I have a 14 yo. She and her friends like makeup, nail polish, lotions, soaps, bath bombs, matching hats and scarves, fuzzy socks, soft throw blankets, face masks, adult coloring books, hot chocolate, coffee mugs, kittens and puppies. The throw blanket is generic enough, but really nice for someone you have never met....See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? July 13-14
Comments (8)I hope everyone with health issues continue to improve. I finished painting our shed and our deck reconstruction is finished (except REPAINTING the posts - they keep oozing sap even with two coats of primer and three coats of paint!) Hopefully, by fall they will dry out and I can resand them and repaint! We are dog-sitting our granddog while DS, DIL, and Granddaughter are out of town. They get back tomorrow - yeah! We also have been doing their yard work while they are gone, so this weekend we finished that up. Tonight I am going to make a tote bag for our friend who went to Iceland with us - cute fabric with puffins on it! When that is finished, I am going to sort some fabric and look at starting a comfort quilt for a friend. Her dad is 102 and lives with her. He is pretty mobile, but takes lots of her time and patience. Sue...See More- 10 years ago
