Comments (3)"Should I try to get some "Great stuff" to spray into the wall adjoining the garage? (This sems to be the entry point)?" If you do try Great Stuff, I'd recommend doing so only after you first eliminate them all first (where there's smoke...) otherwise you might close it/them in and have a worse problem. Pesky little things mice are. Especially this time of year in the northern hemisphere....See MoreMouse in House
Comments (9)The only good mouse is a DEAD mouse. Sorry if I hurt anyones feelings on that, but I have a good friend who was very, very ill last Christmas from Hanta Virus from cleaning up the mouse droppings in his shed. They are dirty, destructive little pests and where there is one there are 12 more. You have no idea the mess they can make out of wiring, (a fire hazzard), baseboards, (yes they will make those little holes just like in the cartoons, and if you don't believe me, come see the one in my pantry) upholstry,(love to nest in your couch cushions, garden cushions, and car seats) as well as destroying any food stuffs they can chew their way to. Get a snap trap or a continuous grainery trap and get rid of the little monster. Rose...See MoreMouse in house
Comments (28)Trap it live and be sure to have it spayed or neutered before releasing it.Cut's down on the mouse population. Yes,I'm being facetious but ya know, mice are nasty little creatures and carry all kinds of diseases.I have no qualms about trapping them, dead or alive,(preferably dead) and I do not "relocate" them to breed more.I guess you can tell from my "tone" that I have had a mouse problem?? LOL I had one a few months ago that I could not trap.Messy, messy little critter. He would crawl all over the top of the stove and leave his little calling cards.I tried the live traps with no luck.Even the cat couldn't catch him and she can catch flies in mid air! I would watch him crawl out of the space on the back of the stove between the panel where the controls are and the back of the stove,so I would set traps on the stove top near that space at night.Next morning the trap would have no bait and no mouse. One night I was sitting at the computer and watched him hang by his back feet from the panel and eat the peanut butter off the trap! I know, how could I bear to trap such a smart little mouse?? LOL I went to Wall-Mart next day and bought traps with a different kind of mechanism and caught him that night.Didn't shed a tear!LOL Sorry if I offend anyone....See MoreThe House Mouse for old house lovers
Comments (2)This is a great site, although it's been a while since I looked at it. Thanks for the reminder. I love that the description of this house is "of rather plain design"! I was hoping to find my simple little house there but the emphasis seems to be far more on the fancier houses. The closest thing would be the Cottage for a Mill Hand, which is what mine originally was also - we have the same general arrangement of living room (parlor) in the front, DR behind it (although my house has no fireplaces), and kitchen in the other back corner, but a long narrow front hall back to the kitchen with a straight stair on one side instead of the square one. This is the typical design for this style house in my area; there are thousands of them, since from the early 19th century to WWI there were hundreds of factories here (primarily textiles, shoes and other leather goods, and wood products) and there was great demand for cheap, simple housing. Just as in the pictured house, my house originally had no indoor bathroom - until they were made illegal in the 1960s there was an outhouse out back, just 100 yards from a river! The exterior is very different though....See Morerhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7
