Comments (12)Keriann we stayed in Dorado and I'm so glad that we did. Where are you staying? It's fairly isolated but I like that and the beach that the resort was on was spectacular and not crowded. It was in the mid to upper 80's but was very comfortable. You must have a car if staying in Dorado or you'll be at the mercy of the taxi's which will cost you an arm and a leg to get into town. Just book a rental car before you go and a shuttle will take you from the airport, just like anywhere else. I think we used Avis but all the big companies are there. We brought our GPS but they'll give you directions to wherever you are staying. If you have a GPS I'd bring it or you can rent one with the car. Like I mentioned they are terrible drivers and think nothing of just stopping in the middle of the road! There's plenty of local restaurants in Dorado as well as the fast food places. We had a condo so we went to the grocery store and usually had lunch in the condo or at the pool bar. Schedule the biobay and or the bioluminescent bay tour at least a month before you go. That was our mistake. All the tours were already full when we were there. You also need to make sure that the moon is at a quarter or less when going to the bioluminescent bay. It's not that far from Dorado, maybe an hour. Even the western side of the island, Rincon, Mayaguez, etc is only about 2 hours from Dorado. Have a great trip....See MorePuerto Rico trip coming up soon!

Comments (33)It was definitely a lot of fun, will it happen again, who knows? But Puerto Rico is always there, barring a few hurricanes and I'd be willing to bet that most of the places we went would allow small groups to visit them. It was mostly hiking straight up and down muddy terrain, through tall grass, etc. for me as good as or better than camping (just needed some fishing). Mailing back bare rooted plants and clean seeds is the best way to go. Felipe, I'm not 100% sure Murahilin tried the mammea, I think the seeds may have been from fallen fruit, it was a large tree. Perhaps he can offer a different response? -Ethan Here is a link that might be useful: More info and photos about the PR trip...See MorePuerto Rico trip #2
Comments (37)Hello fellow fruit lovers. So, I am going to PR for the first time with my family the second week of January. I am obsessed with fruit and growing (or trying to grow) tropical fruit bearing trees. I live in WI so I move my plants indoors in the winter, but anyways I have some major questions for you all: 1. I'm going in January so what are your thoughts on this time of year and fruit picking? 2. Ok, I NEED a "pocket book" identification guide for tropical fruit plants/trees. I have been searching for hours online for any kind of book that would fit my needs to do this and can't find what I need. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR TITLES OF BOOKS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! 3. I am not going to be able to travel all over the island in direct search for fruit. We are staying in Luquillo. We will be taking a sailboat from Luquillo to the islands off the east coast for a day. Any good fruit to be searched for there? I may have some free-time to do so on that day.. 4. I will be in the rainforest for a day. Any suggestions on free-lance fruit searching in there? 5. We will be traveling across the island to the West coast on one day to try and see the whales. I wanted to try and stop at a coffee plantation on the way to grab some coffee plants and HOPEFULLY SEEDS TO PLANT AT HOME! Any suggestions on which plantation to stop at?? It'd be best if they had other fruits too that I could check out?? 6. What place had the best grafted trees for sale? 7. I plan on bringing back a lot of seeds and hopefully some cuttings that I can ziplock baggie and take home and try to root. If I wash the seeds thoroughly as well as the cuttings, and there is no soil in the bags, will I have a lot of issues with the inspection at the Airport in Customs? 8. ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING FROM YOU ALL!! I enjoyed reading your forums and literally cannot STOP researching PR right now. I want to enjoy sooo much fruit and try and grow some back home!! THANK YOU!! Sarah...See Moredickmarti14
