? about custom cabinets, and the whole process

A couple of questions!

1) I went to a local kitchen & bath place today, and was surprised to hear that they use Conestoga doors for their "in-house custom" cabinets. They contract out the boxes and Conestoga makes the doors for them. The display kitchen was GORGEOUS.

Is that typical, or unusual?

They are coming out here on Monday to measure.

2) I posted this in my other thread about my layout (peninsula to island), but I think it got buried: what are the steps I need to take to start on this remodeling road? The place I went to today is a start-to-finish deal -- KD, cabinets, flooring, backsplash, electrical, countertop (they are fans of soapstone!) If I pretty much know the layout I want (based on your feedback, of course!) do I find a different kind of person/place, like a GC? I do need help figuring out shelving and drawers; I have NO clue about that.

And, not a question... I got M. Tex soapstone samples today! Waiting for Dorado now. SO in love with the samples...
