New information on the shingles vaccine

I read this article in the AARP Bulletin. It shares some information on a new vaccine undergoing testing, and describes a disagreement among experts on when the present vaccine should be administered.

What You Should Know About the Shingles Vaccine

The Merck TV commercials and print ads for the shingles vaccine bother me because they speak only of the pain of the rash. No mention of the virus attacking the nerves, which to my knowledge is the major source of the pain.

It certainly was in my experience. I've had shingles twice, and the first time I never got the rash but I was out of work two weeks because of the pain and my inability to lie down to sleep. The second time I got a small rash on my eyelid, but the pain was in my trigeminal nerve. The whole right side of my head hurt.

Anyway, I found the article interesting.

Oh, and I like to illustrate my posts whenever possible. I suppose this one is a stretch, but I did say shingles was painful. LOL
