Minimum size for prep sink and cleanup sink
Comments (15)It looks like you've gotten lots of good advice on size already, but I'll throw mine in too 13-3/4 X 15-3/4. It works very well for me. If you are going to do a LOT of washing of very large items, I might go bigger, but for standard prep stuff, that's served me well. Two other thought's I'll add about prep sinks since you're in the planning stage. 1)Be careful about the depth (front to back) of sink you choose, if you are installing it on a standard depth counter (i.e. not an island, where depth would not be as big of an issue). I actually had a deeper one originally, but since mine is on a standard depth counter, there was not room for the faucet with the deeper sink - OOPS! - and I had to return it for a smaller one. 2) One thing I wasn't sure about doing but am now REALLY glad I did, was to put a garbage disposal in BOTH my prep as well as my main sink. Prep junk (veggie peels, etc) goes down prep disposal, and clean-up junk (plate scrapings, etc) goes down main disposal. Hope that helps....See MoreFinal layout: prep sink, island size, etc. About to sign off!
Comments (4)I like that the island lines up with the counter and leaves plenty of space between it and the table, plus leaves a nice traffic lane from the patio door. If it's wide enough for the seating you require, I think it's fine....See MoreFaucet sizes: Sink vs prep sink.... ?
Comments (9)Just be sure you're correct about different versions. Check the model #; if they are exactly the same, then they are the same, regardless of what the people posting reviews think. Manufacturers cannot use the same # for two different versions. Yes, some do make lower end versions for big-box stores, but not all do -- some actually sell the same in both places. Often the big-box stores can sell exactly the same fixture for a lower price b/c they buy in volume and pay less than the plumbing store....See MoreIsland size 4x8, 5x8, 4x9, 5x9, or 4x5 (small for corner seating)
Comments (13)@Patricia Colwell thank you for sharing the pictures of your island. This is useful for me for reasons other than what the OP is concerned about. I now get to see the work-horse stainless steel sinks (I am in the process of finalizing my sink and faucet). Could you please share the sink depth and also the faucet that you have (Is that a Brizo)? I know from experience that for every functional sink and location there is the right faucet that is a game changer. I am looking for a faucet with the right reach and clearance. My sink will be on the perimeter, however....See Moreck_squared
