I can't believe it! Blooms!
Comments (13)Speaking personally, for me as a home hobbiest Hoya lover, these distinctions seem sort of minor. The look of these is so similar (one to the other) to me, I'm not going to worry which I have. This discussion (tho' calm & very civilized) reminds me of the bad blood that got going here a couple of yrs. ago in the 'nomenclature wars'. to bad results. I also know that this was the cause of a rather big rift btwn a number of 'name' Hoya growers of prominence (from what I've heard & read). Tho' I'm not saying this discussion is going there, it does remind me of all that yuck. I've recently gotten my 2nd one of these 'Multiflora types', am experimenting w/ diff. growing methods, am growing 1 in mix & the other just in water, curious to see which blooms first....See MoreCan't Believe They're Still Around
Comments (13)Hey Steve, You might recall that I was born and raised in NW Indiana, Benton County. Yea, the cool front came through this morning and it is now 79°. . .don't laugh! Actually, I was supposed to attend my nephew's wedding in Fowler, Indiana last Saturday. My hubby and I were going to drive up in our RV and stay at my parents' house on the Tippecanoe River. Then we were going to take our time and drive back home stopping at the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. But due to health issues, I'm still here in south Texas scheduled to have my gallbladder removed next week at the Houston Medical Center. In the meantime, I watching my cute little hummers!...See MoreI can't believe how quickly Rhodies wilt!
Comments (27)1.5 inches of rain wouldn't water trees deeply if the soil were bone dry to begin with, but since most trees have a lot of roots close to the surface, it would still help them significantly. In this case though my soil was still somewhat moist throughout prior to yesterday's rain, so now it is really moist. Rhododendron macrophyllum grows at least as high up as 4,000' around here - I'm sure those higher altitude plants haven't even started blooming yet. They may still even be covered in snow in some places. Even today I was noticing still unopened buds on the low-elevation ones I drive past every day. There are very widespread on the northeast Olympic Peninsula and in north Kitsap county....See MoreI can't believe I have to reorganize again!
Comments (74)Marie - Progress! Itn't it great? ********************* The newspapers need to go! Are there any drop-off bins for them? If you find a bin along a route you often take, you can mke it go along with shopping ... papers go out to make room for groceries in. If your area is just not easy to recycle in, and there are no organizations that have "paper drives" ... trash them. ADS: The ads are short-term promotions. There will be more with the next newspaper. Would this work? 1. Coupons for things you buy? Cut them out and put them in a coupon wallet. Discard the rest of the ads. 2. Ads for things you need REAL SOON! Clip the ad for that thing and put it in your wallet as a reminder to buy it. Discard the rest of the ads. Throw out the ad as soon as you buy the product. 3. Ads for things you will need eventually (if you are planning a remodel or refurnish), or ads for "I can make that!" items. Clip the ad for that thing and put it in a folder labeled "Future Furniture" or whatever as a reminder to buy it. Discard the rest of the ads. Notice that you are only keeping the few square inches of paper that is of interest, not 8 sheets of it. With this approach, I turn a stack of Sunday ads into 15-20 coupons, and maybe a clip in a file folder of gardening ideas. A whole home and garden magazine becomes a few additions to the recipe folder and a clipping in a "How to" folder. ******** "filled a large garbage bag with unneeded stuff. It's in the corner of the garage for now because there are things in there that my kids might need for their kitchens." How old are the kids? Unless they are within a year or so of moving out, the stuff might not be worth the space it's taking up. And storing in bags doesn't work well - they don't stack tidily and the stuff breaks. If it's worth keeping, store it securely in boxes that stack. ********* "5-drawer filing cabinet" Storing at the point of need tends ot keep clutter down more than a huge storage place that isn't convenient....See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
