Yep, three eggs now. The site said the third egg was first observed on the 30th so it would seem they don't lay their eggs all at once. I was wondering how long before we see chicks too, so I looked it up & it takes 5-6 weeks of incubation before the eggs hatch. If the first egg arrived around the 23rd of April (according to the Wood's Hole site), we should start looking around May 27th. The eggs will hatch in the order in which they were laid. Dad's helping out too. I think I saw him bring a peice of food back, but it was unidentifiable. I've also seen them switch off for sitting on the eggs. They had a peice of paper that they were using as a blanket for awhile. They would place it over the eggs while stretching their legs and then tuck it around their breast while sitting. I have no desire to carry a computer around with me, and so I'm content with desktop. I also have two desktops - one with XP and one with Vista. I've had the XP one since 2000, and it originally had Windows 98. It does everything I want except video editing, and so the second computer is dedicated to that, but I seldom use it. I have Google Earth and Sketchup on the new computer as well, but I cannot print from it because there is no driver for Vista for my laser printer, and the printer is not that old. I'm using an Okidata color laser printer that is on our home network. I've thought about getting a laptop so that I could put my Astrology software on it and rent myself out for parties, doing astro readings, but now that I'm working full time again, I don't have time for that. I've also thought about getting an iMac, but I really don't need it. For my birthday, I bought myself a new 22" flat screen monitor, which I found at a Circuit City going out of business sale for $200. I had to recycle my old CRT, which worked fine, but was way too bulky. I felt bad about getting rid of it because it worked fine and a 19" screen, which was big enough, I think. Last month DB and I upgraded our bedroom TVs to LCDs (32" Sharp), and so we ended up with two TVs to recycle that also worked fine. I kept my large old TV in the garage, and we took my old CRT and Kevin's old TV to the recycling center, where we learned that we could recycle only two CRTs per year, and we've met our quota for the year now. So I guess the other TV will stay in the garage for a while. I might hook a DVD player up to it. Lars

Are you able to switch the loveseat and sofa? That would bring the sofa out from the wall and at more of a right angle to the loveseat. This will bring the main seating area closer together and more functional. Keep in mind that the sofa would not be against the wall and closer to the middle of the room. You could eventually find a nice table to go along the back of it for lamps and accessories. Your grandmother's buffet would probably work for that! :) I like it in the entry, but I'm a compulsive furniture rearranger. I like to change things up every 6 months or so. If that isn't an option because of bad flow, bring the loveseat out from the wall toward the sofa. The front corners of those pieces should be closer together. The spider chair looks nice in the corner by the entry. It also offers a place for you to sit and put on/take off your shoes. It just needs some artwork hanging by it. Your tall plant can go into the living room corner to help disguise your thermostat. Then the standing lamp can go into the now vacant corner behind the furniture. Tired yet? :)

Hi Macy, I did put a salad bowl finish on my cutting block. I had a thick maple butcher block for 30 years and treated it with only oil or oil/paraffin wax. Then I bought a cherry end grain block to be integrated into an island. I was worried about going with a block that wasn't maple because maple's high density is ideal for block. So... I got the cherry lock from Boos and sanded it down to get rid of the imperfections. Then I oiled it, and oiled it and oiled it and oiled it. Cherry is less dense than maple and it kept absorbing all of the oil I put on it. I also used oil/wax blends but the cherry would absorb it all and lose its water repellency very quickly. After using almost two quarts of mineral oil on the bock I envisioned oil pouring out of the end grain on the bottom of the block! I researched all over the internet and didn't find much information about problems with non-maple blocks. Then I found a woodworker's website that mentioned using salad bowl finish to lock together the grain in a butcher block to reduce its ability to absorb water and oils. I tried it and it worked fabulously! The trick is to keep adding all of the finish the wood will absorb during an application and then wiping off ALL residue from the surface before it dries so there will not be a film left on the surface. Now I don't have to oil the block very often and it is easy to get water to bead up on the block. Cleanup is a breeze. I've done a lot of woodworking and worked with many types of wood finishes including spraying and it is impressive to see how well this works. Believe me, I was concerned about ruining my block but the end result is better than I would have guessed. Billy
