starting new thread, old topic: AVG uninstall didn't work
Comments (7)OK so we assume you have downloaded and saved the Avast program. Remove the internet connection temporarily. Right click on the AVG icon near the clock click Exit and follow any instructions to complete the stopping of AVG Right click on Start click Explore then use the left side only at first click plus sign beside C:\... and the menu drops underneath click the plus sign beside Program files and it drops again click the Grisoft folder to highlight it Now move to the right side of your screen and click on all the items to highlight them right click in the highlighted area click Delete Back to the left side right click on Grisoft to highlight right click on highlighted name click Delete AVG program is now removed but the registry entries are still present so you might consider running Crap Cleaner before going on. They can be left as they cannot be used once the underlying program is removed Install Avast, reconnect to the internet and look for updated definitions and register the Avast program and you should be good to go....See MoreWhat do I have to do to get a flat screen TV to work with cable?
Comments (6)This should go in the electronics forum, but I'll answer anyway. It sounds like you are still getting an analog signal from the cable company. As long as you make sure to get a TV with a built-in tuner, you should be all set. No box required, you're lucky. The thing is though, it sounds like you aren't getting an HD signal. The standard definition picture that looked fine on your older TV may not look as good on your flatscreen, since it was designed for a much higher resolution. But frankly, I'm amazed your current setup even works still. In my area, they ENCRYPTED the basic cable signals, so even if you had a newer flatscreen TV with digital tuner, you had to get a converter box for every TV in your house. And to top it off, these cheapo "converter boxes" weren't even compatible with HD, so if you wanted to get your HD signal back like you had before the box, you had to upgrade to a higher tier of cable. What a racket. practigal: Netflix is great, I love it, but you can't just order movies from it. There is a subscription fee. Though there are other services like iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Instant Video, and Vudu where you can just pay per movie or TV show. I actually tried to cancel my basic cable a few years ago for the same reason (internet streaming) and they threatened to jack up the cost of my internet higher than the basic cable fee! So I just kept it....See MoreCompleted work! Had a difficult time with TV wall, thanks for the hel
Comments (18)The console is very nice, but I also feel that the bottom part would look nicer if the majority of space was filled with books, and that the space is too low to showcase family photos well. It would be nice to remove that basket to the left of the console since it detracts from it. The most important thing, however, is that you like how you've styled everything; it's your home....See MoreAnchors I used didn't work. What kind of anchors do I need?
Comments (7)The walls are definitely drywall, Allie. The walls are not lath & plaster. Since this is a curtain rod that you are trying to hang, I suspect that the anchors hit solid wood, the studs or a header. Take an ice pick or something similarly long & pointy and tap it into the hole w/ a hammer. If it 'sticks' then you know that you have hit solid wood (hopefully not metal framing or a large framing nail!) and all you need to do is patch the holes, drill new pilot holes and use longer screws, long enough to go thru the drywall and a half inch or so into the wood. If you have a cordless screwdriver or drill, dial the torque setting down & skip the pilot holes. (Use a little bar soap to lube the threads on the screws.)...See Moresusanjf_gw
