I have had an ever-increasing problem with pillbugs and sowbugs in my raised vegetable beds for several years. Doing away with the mulch was not an option, as it is necessary to keep the veggies cool and producing in our 100-degree-plus days. I did pull back the mulch from the base/stems of the plants. I pulled it back just a couple of inches and that seemed to help. Still, I had thousands and thousands of the pillbugs happily munching away on everything, not just the mulch and decomposing organic material. They seem especially fond of tomato plants and bean plants. Then, on the advice of someone here at one of the Garden Web Forums, I purchased an ORGANIC slug and snail killer called Slug-go. Its' active ingredient is Iron Phosphate so whatever is not eaten by the pests just breaks down and adds a small amount of iron to your soil. Of course, I was skeptical that a snail and slug bait would work on pillbugs and sowbugs, but it did! I applied the Slug-go to my garden following the directions on the container. I saw an immediate decrease in the pillbug/sowbug population within just a few days. Because we have been having rain daily, I reapplied it after a couple of weeks. Again, I saw a further decrease in the population. I have been very happy with the results. I won't say all the pillbugs and sowbugs are gone, which I wouldn't want anyway, because they are useful in breaking down organic material. I would say that the bug population which had gotten greatly out of hand is now back at a reasonable level, and the pillbugs/sowbugs that remain are staying away from my green plants. Be sure you use an organic product like Slug-go or Escar-go which has iron phosphate as an active ingredient. You DON'T want to use a chemical slug/snail product that has metaldahyde as the active ingredient vecause it is highly toxic. I had to order Slug-go via the internet because I live in a really small town and couldn't find it here. I have battled millipedes for years in SE Michigan. Beginning end of June/early July, they march across my driveway and emerge from behind retaining walls, many determined to crawl up the south facing walls of my house over night, walls that just happen to contain my garage overhead doors, so that I can usher them in with the opening of the door. Millipedes are relentless, stink to high heaven especially when threatened and stain areas where they cluster; and they reproduce at an alarming rate. During the summer, I can vacuum up hundreds of millipedes every day, off of the walls and from their favorite nesting places near the house. Aside from the vacuuming to control the population growth as well as the nuisance, I treat walls and perimeter with bifenthrin 4 times during the spring/summer months. I'm less than thrilled with the bifenthrin approach, but you'd have to be a pretty strong person to ignore thousands of millipedes crawling along your outside walls and across hardscape, decks, patios, etc. So, all this seems to have made a dent in the population, but I am very interested in the nematode approach. Anybody aware of where I might obtain millipede destroying nematodes in the US?

I think I may have a millipede issue - last night I woke up and found one on my bed (1 inch, dark colored) while I was sleeping and 2 hours later another one (1 inch, light colored) near the baseboard of the doorway in my bedroom. I'm well aware that they have no interest in human beings but the sight of them stresses me out and my anxiety is through the roof. I'm trying to figure out where they come from and I could only point to two places. Note: I live in a high-rise condo 15+ floor 1) My indoor Sansevieria plant which sits in the living room on a coffee table and gets light from the balcony. It appears to be really healthy - the leaves are upright and sturdy, even several baby leaves are coming through the top, I've checked the soil and found no critters. I even had the soil potted once before because I was paranoid and saw tiny spider mites in the original soil. 2) My roommate's outdoor vegetable - peppers/strawberries/tomatoes/herbs - garden which is on our balcony (and is separated by sturdy sliding doors). She takes care of them so I have no idea what their routine is. I did spot some dead/dried leaves and flowers in some of her pots. The plants also just sit in one pot - no drainage pot + decorative pot like my Snake plant. Over the weekend, we both left on trips so the AC was off and it probably got hot and humid in our place. When I got back from my trip, I watered both my plant + hers. I was gone for most of the day until I got home last night, crashed into my bed, and may have missed the first millipede I saw. I'm wondering if somehow the act of me watering the plants/disturbing the soil (combined with the humidity in our place) caused them to rise out of their soil and migrate out of the pots? Any advice? Most of the soil pest stories I've read involve actually seeing the millipedes in the soil whereas here they have actually 'migrated' into my living space.
