You might try going into "Tools>Options>Security>Saved Passwords" and typing "accounts.google.com" into the search box. That should bring up your gmail password which you can then "Remove".

Thanks, Richard. That is not the problem. There is a setting somewhere where you check 'keep me signed on.' I would never check that.

Since starting up this laptop, gmail just automatically signs me in and I can't find the setting to change it. If I change my password it will not change anything unless I change that 'stay signed in' setting.

I have looked everywhere and cannot find it. I remember this happened a few years ago on my old computer and I eventually found a way to change it but I don't remember and I can't find any information on it.

Oops, it looks like you also need to clear cookies. At least your gmail cookies. "Tools>Options>Privacy>Show Cookies" Search for "accounts.google.com" and remove them all.

That in addition to clearing the password from Firefox's database (see above) will hopefully allow you to see, and uncheck, the 'Stay signed in' box.

Did you actually go into the settings that Richard suggested and check? Even if you "would never check that," it doesn't mean that it's not set that way.

I fixed it by setting up a Master Password with FF. I tried everything else, cleaning cookies, etc and nothing worked. I did not tell FF to save passwords. Yet Gmail was saving my password.

I told FF to set up a Master Password and now I have to enter that each time I open FF. Gmail still logs me on without my gmail password. But at least it gives some protection from anyone logging on.

I know I had this problem years ago and it is some setting on Gmail. I just can't find it.
