Oh I hate when that happens! Don't you feel almost cheated?

After avidly watching 'Lost' for all those years I felt the same way about the final episode. Even though I knew that there was no way all the loose ends would be wrapped up I was still disappointed. After such a strong run the ending was weak and to me uninspired. It's excusable when a series is canceled and the writers lack sufficient time to create a thoughtful ending.

Now that we finished watching Breaking Bad, which was great, good ending too. We were thinking of starting Lost, but am reading that the ending is very disappointing to many.

Never could get into Downton Abbey. But you know how it is, there is NOTHING to watch on TV and out of desperation and boredom you get "hooked" on something that you passed on previously. The first time I watched breaking bad, an early episode, I was so turned off by wimpy main character, I stopped watching. Then after a desperation watching, I couldn't get enough.

Another such show, Big Bang Theory. I couldn't stand the nerds, now I think the writing is plain genial.

I was hooked on Breaking Bad, right from the first few scenes. One series we started to watch was Dexter, but we couldnt get through the first episode. Now that we have had netflix for a couple of months, it is hard to get through any show on cable with all those commercials.

RoseAbbey - I would still recommend watching Lost. It was interesting, intriguing and at times a bizarre puzzle. Even though I didn't care for the ending it did have merit and a philosophical perhaps existential ending.

I was so bored with DA this season that I stopped watching online after the third episode. Based on your comments, I think I'll catch the Christmas special and skip the rest.

I need to go back and re-watch lost. The last 2 seasons happened right about the time we were relocated overseas and I never finished the series. Perfect show to watch while I'm on the elliptical.

We have watched two episodes of Lost today, so far so good.

I like Call the Midwife much better than Downton as far as PBS shows go. I watched seasons 1-3 and the first four episodes of season 4 and then I stopped being interested. I hated that everything kept happening to John and Anna Bates. Goodness, just leave those two alone!

I'm looking forward to Sherlock Christmas special too.

kswi2: I agree with your assessment for the most part. My 17 yo DD and I mostly watched the show to make fun of it, especially Cora Crawley (Elizabeth McGovern) and her horrific delivery. It always sounds like she's reading off cue cards! My daughter does a perfect impersonation of her! Still, we have had fun watching it together so I'm sad it's over. We also used to be embarrassed by Edith, but other than Mosley, she turned out to be the most interesting character. It's not hard to figure out how things will wrap up on the Christmas special.

Oh, I forgot to mention Moseley! What a surprise from that one! My favorite scenes of him are his drunken solo dancing at the Scottish castle over Christmas :-) But he turned out all right, didnt he?

i thought Edith would be well and truly set by the end of that last episode but now I am thinking she will be the only really modern character who makes her own way (unless Julian Fellowes just can't resist what he obviously sees as a happy ending). Rosamund was another character who improved vastly over time.

either McGovern's acting improved over the series or I got used to it....INitially she sounded like she had pebbles in her mouth and was reading. Maybe a more critical ear would think she still is, but I guess I lost all expectations for her.

Beagles,there was actually a line in one of the episodes when a policeman came to Downton and someone remarked that finally, he hadn't come to arrest one of the Bateses, or words to that effect. IMO that was the writers poking a bit of fun at their own over contrived plots!

Oh crud! I didn't realize that DA was on again. I watch almost no tv so I am always on the lookout for my GW friends to post what is on. Now I have to see if PBS has them to view or if Amazon Prime has the series. Thanks for mentioning KSWL.

Holly-Kay - The latest season on DA isn't being shown in the US now. It will air in the US starting January 3, 2016. KSWL streams it through iTV Player (I just call it voo-doo TV.)

kswl - I agree with your assessment of the characters, entirely! Lady Mary’s behavior this season has been infuriating, to say the least. Her attitude and lack of any compassion for Edith has been especially annoying. Edith has shown so much more backbone and awareness of Mary’s personality flaws, without playing the “pity me” card, that her personality has evolved into a character I admire more with each episode. I will say that Mrs. Hughes is going to have her hands full putting up with Carson’s priggishness, too! The Christmas show probably won’t have many surprises, although I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the new Marquis......what do you think?

I was entirely prepared for him to fling himself at her in the final frames of Sunday's episode, and when he didn't----well, that's when I thought they'll make her the only truly independent character of the lot. He was probably afraid of what Mother would think, lol. Carson has forgotten himself---he used to be on the stage (remember the first or second season?). Lately it seems as if he is playing a butler stereotype rather than being one. And speaking of butlers.....what did you make of you know who??? I was amazed! "Bananas," for sure!
