Shower valve for hard water and sediment

Our gorgeous thermoregulating shower valves have gotten to the point where we can no longer adjust the temperature. In addition to fairly hard water, we also seem to have a lot of sediment.

We're on a well and are working on the sediment problem, a saga for another day.

My question is: What type of shower valve is least vulnerable to these issues?

We're thinking we should go with relatively inexpensive pressure balance valves. And then just replace every 5 years or so?
