What's happening to my knock-out climber?
Comments (3)Don't see any webbing at all....and don't have a magnifier handy. The affected leaves are brittle and dry. Even those partially affected, where they are are brittle even if the center of the leaf is still green and supple. It's as if the life has been sucked out of them. Is there a better time of day to look for spider mites? I don't see anything moving anywhere on the leaves....See MoreWrong time to plant Knock-out Roses?
Comments (1)Potted roses may be transplanted in hot summer. Just water thoroughly. If you should disturb the root ball much, and the plants wilt, you may need to provide temporary shade for ten days. Ideally, daffodil time for bare roots and dogwood time for potted roses....See MoreCan I prune my double knock out roses now?
Comments (16)I haven't had roses long either, but I think it is fairly easy to see where to prune in the spring. Wait to do it after your last frost which should be around March or April. It is a signal for your rose to start growing again so wait until you are sure it is safe. Now, when you look at your rose this spring you will see brown ends on the canes. That is dead wood, and you will cut all of that out. Make your first cut just below the brown wood into the green part of the cane. If you don't see any green cane then prune down to the soil. If the green cane is all white inside like an apple, it is good wood. If the inside is brown then you need to prune further down. Watch for dark areas on the green canes. That is canker and you need to prune below any canker you see. Once you have finished pruning seal all the cuts with something. I use regular white glue, but you can use carpenter's glue or nail polish. That will keep out borers which would otherwise lay their eggs inside the cut end of the cane. Feel free to stop by the rose forum for more advice. I post there quite often and everyone is very helpful....See MoreMy Knock Outs
Comments (50)Oakley....or anyone who is taking a break from weeding, planting, or crying. I only mention the crying since after working so veeeeery hard on various yard plantings, they've up and died on me. Lack of seasonal drought wasn't the issue, as my water bill can attest to. Now what was I leading up to.....oh yeah.....Oak, is the Rose Carpet the same as Drift Roses(like KO, probably not REAL Roses, so shoot me now! What I have look very similar, but they are pink and are going 'agro', as said by my son. It means they're doing very well. Again, no pretty Rose scent. The ones behind the DR(pink in color also, but the name escapes me!)have a fungus and I recently cut them back, hoping to eradicate the problem. Any suggestions as to what I need to do will be greatly appreciated. When I do get blooms, they are very fragrant, but it's very 'thorny'. I could use HELP in every aspect of gardening in Austin! I was born in the midwest, and my gardens were something I could be proud of, even my wildflower garden. With a move to San Diego years later, I was still able to contend with the horrific soil, and my plants all flourished. However, here in Austin, the weeds do better than the plants, and i've succeeded with quite a variety. As much as I love to garden, i've just about given up. ;(...See Morecmg7843
