How high ceiling for porch - 10' or 11'?

We're building a porch off the side of our house that will be 23' long x 14.5' deep with a pretty flat hip roof. We have no windows on that that side of the house, so we can go as high as we want. We want a traditional porch much like this one, which is 54'x12' with 11' ceilings: [https://www.houzz.com/photos/front-porch-beach-style-porch-phvw-vp~424789(https://www.houzz.com/photos/front-porch-beach-style-porch-phvw-vp~424789) Our contractor thinks 10' ceiling is high enough and plans on putting on another 1' of molding, so the opening on the side will be only 9'. Lower ceiling heights seem to suit shallower porches okay, but ours will almost be 15' deep. Should we push for 11' ceilings, or is he right? I'm worried about it not feeling open and airy enough as we're used to just a non-covered deck there. On the other hand, a higher ceiling will let in more rain and tree debris. Thoughts?
