Need Advice - Where to put the dishwasher?

Hi all, we are going to sign off on the final plan on Friday and still uncertain on where to put the dishwasher.

We are using the same footprint for our cabinet/appliance replacement but moving some cabinets around. We live in an age-restricted community (aka retirement) so are thinking about the future and best use of space for a resale as well.

In the picture, the dishwasher is adjacent to the sink. When the door is opened, it nearly touches the calves of my legs. We are thinking of swapping it with the cabinet to its left. This cabinet is turning into a double garbage - about 18" wide.

Logically, it will provide better space for someone at the sink and position the garbage for use at the sink and for using the long counter for prep. (Additionally, and DH doesn't want to think of this, it will provide easier access to the sink for someone using a walker or other aid.)

Will it look funny? There's a possibility that we could relocate and don't want something that looks weird to a buyer. Moving wet dishes over the 18" might also be an issue, though our floors are tile and a rug in front of the sink could take care of any slippage from water drips.

Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
