I've read of your preference for Jiffy Pellets as a rooting medium, but every tome I've tried them, they turn moldy although I follow directions to a tee. Short of discarding them (and $), what can be done? Can they be sterilized in the microwave and used in peat pots in a Jiffy mini-greenhouse tray?
Question #2: Several weeks ago, I was given a b. Thurstonii in desperate need of TLC. It was in what looked like very poor yard dirt and had lost a lot of leaves. Long story short, I stuck some leaves in water and they now have roots. Will they produce plantlets? From everything I have read, they are propagated only by stem cuttings. Amazingly, these are the first and only begonia leaves that have rooted for me.
Question #3: Is it too late in the year to root stem cuttings?
