New Hardwood Floor & a Deep Scratch
Comments (5)You bring up a point I'd like to go over. Most wood floors will not hold up to heavy weight being drug across them. This includes rolling out refrigerators. A rug under the weight will not prevent the compression of the wood fibers. The surest method is to place a clean sheet of 1/8" press-board down and drag across it thus dispersing the weight and protecting the floor. The padded sliders will work IF you use them over an upside down piece of short napped carpet. Then any grit encountered will not be forced into the finish and the weight of the item will be adequately dispersed causing no damage....See Moreuneven chairs scratching hardwood floors
Comments (5)take the chairs to the workshop or garage and sand the leg bottoms until they are flat to the floor (angle) and even, then sand the edges so they are not sharp edges ... slightly rounded. or get a carpenter to do it for you. or a furniture repair and mainenance handyman/shop. then use Chair Leg Floor Protectors. Comments (19)Your cleaner will be a pH neutral hardwood floor cleaner. Bruce, Armstrong, Bona, etc all make hardwood floor CLEANERS. Do NOT purchase the "polishes" or any product that promises to REVIVE or REJUVENATE your hardwood floors. These are to be avoided. They are polishes without the word "polish" in it's name. If you are concerned (while standing in the cleaning aisle) go ahead and read the back of the bottle. You are looking for the words "Does not leave a residue". That is the definition of a cleaner. You will want to use a microfibre mop. You will apply the cleaning solution to the MOP HEAD and then swish the mop around. The amount of cleaner is VERY SMALL. Here's how your cleaning routine *should look like: 1. Vacuum/sweep 2-3 times per week (turn off the beater bar if you use a vacuum...suction only) 2. WATER ONLY damp mop 1 per week (microfibre mop that is almost dry) 3. Use your cleaning product 1-2* per MONTH instead of the water-only damp mop I prefer to see the cleaner used 1/month...with the occasional 2nd application done after a particularly dirty month (like in winter or after a pool party). That means your cleaner will be used 12-18 times per YEAR! Yep. Per YEAR! The sweeping will be your biggest form of cleaning. The water-only damp mopping is the NORM...And when I say slightly damp...I mean JUST THAT. The amount of water in the mop will be so little that it will feel 'almost dry'. The only way you will 'feel' the water will be the fact that the mop will feel a little cooler than the air. That's it. That's how LITTLE water you need to care for a hardwood floor....See MoreWater Polyurethane Hardwood Floors Scratching RIDICULOUSLY easy!!!!
Comments (27)At this point, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do nothing. This is a brand new finish. It will not perform to the level of the old finish for a little bit of time. An old oil finish (lets say 15 years of 'hardening') is going to be much HARDER than a fresh water based finish. You must be patient with this. Whomsoever 'let' you back in on that floor after ONE DAY is the one you need to speak with. Bona MEGA needs 10 days to reach a full cure (that means it is no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Bona Traffic HD cures in 5 days (again no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Please respect the youth that is this finish. If it took 15 years for the old finish to perform the way you say it did, you will need to allow this finish the same amount of patience for this new finish. Remember: a floor finish is a floor finish. It's chemical characteristics will not change. The laws of physics and chemistry will not change. The only part of this equation that can 'change' is the human being. Either accept the finish for what it is (super young and needing time and patience) or pay for another finish that will suit YOU....See MoreJohn
