There are at least four ways, maybe more, to solve your problem:

1) Move the router (and cable modem) to a coax socket in a more central location in the house so that there's better coverage to all ends.

2) Run an Ethernet cable (some flavor of Cat 5-6) to the TV. Or, run it a location closer to the TV (than where the router is now) and connect a WAP (Wireless access point, a wifi transmitter with no router) there. That will provide a closer wifi signal to the TV.

3) Get two Powerline adapters. These are wall warts that plug in to an electrical socket and run the network signal over your electrical wiring. One gets plugged in near the router (and has an Ethernet connection to the router) the other gets plugged in near the TV and you run an Ethernet wire from it to the TV. Or, you connect it to a WAP.

Note, Powerline adapters don't work in all houses, it depends on the wiring.

4. Get a wifi extender. This is a relay station, it receives the signal from your router and rebroadcasts it. Put it in between the TV and the router, in a location that hopefully has not too obstructed signal paths to each (ie, not too many walls, pipes and conduit in walls, etc, in between). Wifi extenders can cause interference, and also cut down the capacity of your wifi system (because one signal gets broadcast twice, it divides capacity in half).

If you're buying hardware to try to solve the problem, get it from a seller that will allow a return credit without charging a restocking fee should your purchase not work out.

Thanks Snidely. I have never heard of a WAP. but that sounds like a good solution. I can run one Ethernet cable closer to the TV. The problem with moving the modem is that the input coax is where our computers are, and the re too old to have WiFi capablilities unless I get a card for each of them. That may cost more than a WAP. I had heard of range extenders and found them to be an expensive part, especially if I need more than one. I didn't know about signal degradation. My new router is a Trendnet and it was pretty pricy and didn't work any better than my old router.

I left out adding high gain antennas, either on the router or on the receiving side. Sometimes that's all that's needed.

Range extenders and WAPs are similarly priced, they're essentially the same thing, hardware wise. For many, if you plug a network signal via ethernet cord into a range extender, it will act as a WAP. Or in reverse, as a stronger than normal Wifi sender/receiver.

I have a range extender. For one of my streaming video applications (Sling box), using two Wifi hops was inadequate to carry the signal at full HD resolution. I ran an ethernet wire from my settop box to the nearby range extender to cut out one Wifi hop. That boosted the signal capacity to an adequate level to carry the HD video signal.

So, sometimes you need to play with it to see what you can do.

I've never had that problem in my house with Netflix movie streaming, but I recently bought a new device (an Amazon Echo) that I could only get to work by using a range extender / repeater midway between the router upstairs and the Echo downstairs. Fortunately, the range extender was only about $20:

However, I do have one question: have you confirmed that the speed you get from your Internet provider is adequate to meet Netflix's streaming requirements?

I use an ethernet-over-powerline adapter. Lowest-tier/speed cable service but I get nice quality via my Samsung DVD player with on-board Netflix streaming ... full bars on the speed graph.

I had complained to my internet service provider many times. Upgraded to 60 mbps service at a cost of $59.95 per month. Had to pay for a new Cisco modem and installation. Now all tests show over 65 mbps download speed. When I still complained the tech said it is your router. Get a wireless laptop and find out the download speeds at various locations. Haven't got one yet. I plan to ask my wife's kids if they have one I can use for that test. Meanwhile----. Kudzu9, I used your link to Amazon and checked out that extender. 23% of users gave it a 1 * rating. Most said it started dropping stuff after a short period of use or it never worked. That scared me.

Yes, I understand. I looked at about 10 different brands before choosing that one. I challenge you to find any range extender at any price that everyone says is terrific. I figured it had enough good reviews to warrant a try (and the price was right). All I can say is that it worked fine for me and still is performing. And if it hadn't, Amazon has a great return policy....

Ran a couple online speed tests now, twice each. One registered 2.88 mpbs both runs. The other 3.7 mbps, then 4.0.

I had a friend bring over his WiFi laptop and we found that 5 feet from my wireless router he could only download at less than 4 mbps when at the same time my hard wired computer was downloading at over 65 mbps I have contacted Trendnet customer service and am waiting for a response.

It turns out my modem was fine; his computer was not. When he fixed it it got plenty of speed everywhere but the TV room. Seems to have too much metal near or in the wall there.

As discussed above, get yourself an inexpensive range expander if you want better speed in the TV room.

You may be able to use the old router as extender. What model is the Trendnet.

We had the same problem and discovered quite by accident that one computer exhibited the malfeasance and another in the same place, same connections and everything did worked fine. We now switch from the new Intel to an old Gateway to watch Netflix. Go figure, I think was what we used to say.

Just a thought:

I was having trouble using my VUDU Account on my Smart TV in my Bedroom. My wife uses Netflix all the time in there and the one time I try to watch a movie from my VUDU account it would run for 30 seconds and then the screen would go Green (also pixelated).

After many hours of trying to figure out what the problem was, I figured out that the Software had been up dated to Accommodate HDX and the TV was only able to play the movies in HD or SD. I wondering if Netflix has a feature where you could adjust the picture resolution like in VUDU. You could then try it at a lower setting. I do have Netflix but have never had any problems. But it may be worth a looking into.
