How much does color matter to you?
Comments (15)I do want to just mention that some colors are not as unusual as we tend to think of them. Just because the eggplants in the grocery stores are all dark purple and exactly the same size and shape doesn't mean they define the "right" color for eggplant. The varieties in the store are the descendants of the ones best suited to truck and plane shipping and mass agriculture, so they've become the iconic images in the minds of those of us who utilize grocery stores. Most of the so-called unusual colors are simply heirlooms; few have been bred recently. But I suspect plant breeders are currently actively working on more -- it's a hot trend in gardening. Just as some heirlooms are superior while others are forgotten for good reason, I would guess any new colored varieties will have to stand on their own two roots to pass the test of time....See MoreReed & Barton Silver tea set
Comments (23)The Maltese cross is the symbol of the knights of Malta, used during the Crusades. The Iron Cross which is almost identical to the Maltese Cross became the symbol of bravery in Nazi Germany. It is now sort of a cult "biker" symbol....there must be some significance there but I don't know what it is. It isn't really a symbol of crucifixion. Comments (20)Well, I am back from my DD's, and I am stuffed, I always swear I will not overdo it, but I go ahead and do it anyway. Oh well, this special holiday only comes one time a year and I am enjoying it. I told my DD everything you all said and she was very happy you all liked her efforts, she says thanks! Maymo, LOL, I know, you sort of have to look for them with everything else going on in the tree:) My DD only used picks like this for the first time this year so she was not too sure about it, I think it takes awhile to get used to doing something different on a tree. oldalgebra, Oh good, I was just thinking about you on my drive home, I was afraid I had not explained it very well (I do so much better getting things across to people in-real-life LOL. People on Flickr devote whole groups and forums to taking these kinds of photos. :) I know you'll have lots of fun with this technique. Peoniesandposies, thank you for your nice comment I will pass it along to my DD. :)...See MoreDoes presentation matter to you?
Comments (20)But tearing open bags badly isn't really about presentation to me - it is a matter of wanting the bag in good enough shape to hold the remaining food and make it easy to get out. Also, I hate having to clean-up when the bag finally tears and sends food everywhere. If it is a tough bag I'll use scissors. Presentation is a "nice to have" to me but not always required. Usually when we have family dinners (a few times a week) the food will be moved to serving dishes and served around the table in a civilized manner. But other times I'm fine with serving out of the cooking pans. Last night I made aloo gobi and it was easier to leave the big batch in the wok on the rangetop and serve ourselves buffet style before coming to the table. My husband is a real neatnik when it comes to things like cutting bread. When he does it, you might think it came from a bread slicer. But it annoys me when he slices up the whole loaf. Sometimes I want a thinner or thicker slice so I prefer to slice as I go. Or he will slice a pie or pan of brownies up into even pieces. I'd rather be able to get the size slice I'm in the mood for....See Morejane2000
