Posted on Computer forum, but nothing yet. I need to replace my Kindle, Looking at Kindle Fire--8 ? Which one do you have and what do you like/not like?

I have android tablets with the kindle app installed. So I can do everything I want to do from the tablet like I do my computer but still read all kindle books or any other kind of books. I much prefer a bigger size so go with the 10 inch size range.

I have a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 that's now 2 years old. I absolutely love it.

I have had my replacement Kindle cover for 3 days and the Kindle is working properly. I continued looking for an explanation for the reason the unlighted cover caused the problem but the lighted cover didn't. I found a theory that static electricity was the cause of the problem, but that doesn't explain why the unlighted cover was the culprit. One person reported that the problem didn't start until the weather was really cold, and static electricity was more likely to occur. I did buy my Kindle 3 in the late Fall and the problems didn't start until December. I get shocks from walking across my carpet when it is really cold and recently the temperature in my area had been quite moderate--and the static electricity has not been a problem. I don't know if the improvement in my Kindle is due to the new cover or the decrease in static electricity. A large cold front is predicted so I may get another chance to test the static electricity theory. Nancy

That is outrageous. 2500 is way a lot to spend, I think my Ethan Allen King Sleigh bed bought 9 years ago (when they were still American made) was about 1300. I am not familiar with Jordans store since I am not in your area. I think the tag is ridiculous. They do not define moving. What you did was not move the bed, to me that means moving it to another room or another domicile, not moving it 3 inches away from the wall. We have moved our sleigh bed a foot one way or the other lots of times (no tag either) and its fine. We do have wood floor so it slides and I generally push it. Sometimes I will pull on the outside corner of a headboard but not usually. No problems. Think of it this way, even if you wanted to disassemble the bed, you would have to move it a foot or so away from the wall just to get your screwdriver in the right location to disassemble, right? I would deny moving it, saying whoever spoke to you misunderstood what you were saying. The reality is you did not move the bed in the sense they mean, which is to another location or room. Is it moving if you shift it away from the wall to vacuum or to retrieve an object that fell behind the bed? Comeon! Also the fact that there is no such tag on the showroom one is a big red flag, you may not have purchased if you knew the bed had to be disassembled if you ever want to take it out of the room. Does it say do not move the bed even an inch on the tag? Or does it just generally say, do not move, if that what it says then the warning is inadequate in any case, especially since there was no prior notice to it being in your house Defintely call again and if you get no satisfaction call the credit card issuer you need to do that within 60 days of it being on your bill, state Attorney general and better business bureau

just keep in mind that android tablets let you install the kindle app and the nook app so you can have all of those on one device. It really depends on your needs and wants as to what you get. the tablet with the best sound that I have owned was the vizio it had 3 speakers so no matter which direction you held it in you had stereo and the sound was fantastic. Wish more manufacturers would be more interested in the sound quality and take a lesson and put at least 3 or 4 speakers on them. I often struggle hearing with the one small speaker especially on my phone. I love love love my new Asus transformer tf300 10" tablet with dock but it too could use some improvement in the sound and speaker department. My husband still absolutely loves his lookbook in fact he now has his and mine and I am trying to make him transition over to my Vizio tablet so he has more options and can do other things on it. He is fighting me he wants to stick with his lookbook he is not a fan of the touch screen he keeps touching things by accident then I hear swearing lol. He is not a good student is all I have to say LOL That lookbook is extremely light weight you will not likely find any tablet that is that light.

Ok, you all have me almost convinced to buy myself the Kindle. I just downloaded the app to my iphone. That's all I've done on it so far! The battery is low so I'll have to play with downloading books on it later. Lindsey, I love the idea of putting knitting patterns on it! I scanned some of my pattern pics with the materials list into the computer and printed them in photos, then put them in "brag books" to take with me to yarn shops so I would have the info to buy yarn, or not duplicate patterns, but I've always carried my knitting bag with a bunch of my favorite patterns in it, and my needles when we traveled. Luckily, we don't fly! When we took the train, I vacuumpacked each skein of yarn seperately for a sweater I was working on, and put them in the suit case. I could take out one at a time, and it would puff back up to it's original shape to work with. I knitted 2/3 of a sweater in 10 days that trip! But that bag is HEAVY! With the kindle, I could just carry that, my needles & accessory kit. Hmmm, guess I'll have to check the ccard balances. Trip to KS for a funeral=4 day weekend, gas, food, room. Trip to S. Ohio for bluegrass festival = room, gas, food, tickets, cd, banjo, music stand, & 3 instrument stands. Have to think about it. Tami

I replaced my Kindle a few years back with an IPad Mini. Like raven states, it can do everything as well as loading all Kindle books and other books. You just use the Kindle app. I regularly load free books from my local library--far more than I purchase books for Kindle. I'd recommend looking wider than just Kindle for something that can do everything Kindle does but is far more multipurpose.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. I love my plain ole Kindle just to read with. I bought a Kindle Fire and gave it to my son, I only wanted a reader. I have an iPad also and seldom use it. Think about what you want it to do and that should make up your mind as to what you purchase.

I like my old Paperwhite for reading the newspaper, even though it does color pictures on the iPad. We got a relative the large Fire HDX as a replacement for his old DX. He's liked using it a lot, mostly for reading. I haven't confirmed this, but from what I've been told, what the Fire has over other tablets is Whispersync. There's still some ability, on a wi-fi only model, to get books away from a hot spot. Do check that out to be sure.

I have several Kindles, including the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9. I also have an iPad Air. My Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 can do everything an iPad or iPad mini can do. And, as shown in several commercials, the Kindle Fire is sturdier than an iPad.

The Kindle Fire has a fully functional web browser, a camera, can store and play music, can take videos, etc. You can add apps to it, too. If you're an Amazon Prime member you can watch hundreds of tv shows and movies for free on the Fire. If you're not a Prime member, you pay to watch movies/tv, but you still have the ability to watch. I send e-mail from the Fire and receive e-mail on it.

You can add a micro sd card to the Fire to expand the memory by as much as 128 GB. (You cannot add a card to an iPad.)

The "Family Library" on the Fire allows you to share your account and content with other family members,

The Kindle Fire with special offers is on sale now for $59 - I can search the web, read books, play games on mine. The special offers are simply a changing ad when you open the device, nothing more and you never see it when using the machine. I have a Fire, a Paperwhite (which is great for travel because it has a superlong battery life but is simply a reader) and a tablet. I find I use them all.

I should have mentioned that I also have an iPad Air. It's very similar to my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 in size and function but there is a huge difference in price.

I never would have paid the $$$ for an iPad Air but I won it in a drawing. As Lindsay has pointed out it is fairly sturdy. I have an Amazon Origami case for mine which is an interesting engineering feat- it's lightweight, thin, and folds into different positions allowing you to stand the Kindle both horizontally and vertically. Since winning the iPad Air I now have an iPhone and it is handy that they synch easily.

Tablets of the Android and Ipad varieties are Swiss Army knives. They do everything. Amazon realized they were missing out on a market opportunity and wrote Kindle apps for different devices so that owners of these could be Kindle content customers too.

Kindles, on the other hand, were designed mainly for one function - reading digital books. For that purpose, they offer vastly superior features like insane battery life and easy readability in direct sunlight. Tablets don't compare. Broader capabilities - browsers, etc - have been added to Kindles to make them a bit more competitive with tablets. But fundamentally, they're designed to be superior to tablets for reading and I think they are.
