Kindle information please!

I have a very old Kindle fire,, that I did not even use for several years. Finally started to use it and do have lots of books on it. Need to get a new one, but don't know which one Been checking on Amazon and the one for 149.00 looks the best for me. Differences??? What do you have? Where did you buy it? etc

Also may get a IPad as some of the books from a Church site are ebooks and I haven't learned how to get them on my Kindle, expect when I buy from Amazon.

Marie, First of all it would be good to know what you use the Tablet for? I have an older Acer Iconia A500 (Android 4.0) that's been a great tablet for me. When I decided to get another Tablet I went with an Acer again. This time I did do it a little differently (Acer Iconia W4-820-2882), I went with a Windows 8.1 Tablet (now upgraded to Win 10) instead of an Android Tablet! It's just like using a mini computer, I love it!

I can still Access and Read My Books thru the Google Play Site (not sure about the Amazon Site, never purchased any books there even though I do have an Amazon account. You could always try it on a Windows computer to make sure it works if you would decide to go with a Windows Tablet.

Your Kindle Fire was just an Android OS with an Amazon exterior. You could use any Android Tablet you want, doesn't have to be a Kindle! My wife has an older Kindle Fire Tablet and buys her books on Amazon!

Your choices are basically : iPad (Mac OS), Android OS & Windows OS.

I think Mac has a very good product but is a little overpriced. Windows and Android may come in all the other brands (Dell, Acer, Asus, etc...). Myself, I've found that buying Acer I'm usually getting more for my $$$. Here is a Link for the one I purchased: Acer Iconia W4-820-2882 it is Refurbished by Acer!

Do you want a Kindle Reader or one of the Fire tablets? The Reader is designed mostly for reading using an e-ink screen, which has great battery life and visibility in bright light. Amazon also offers a "paperwhite" version of the screen which is, well, whiter. Then you have the option of having advertising on the home screen (not while you're reading) in exchange for a lower price. You can get "non-Amazon" books on your Reader including electronic books downloaded from public libraries. There are a few steps involved but it's not overly complicated. The Fire tablets run a modified version of Android and are Amazon-centric. If you can live with that, they tend to be a pretty good value. They, of course, do all the other stuff a tablet does - web browsing, email, social media, games, etc.

The Kindle App is available for both iOS (Apple) and Android and will work on almost any device. Any ebook you've purchased through Amazon is available on any device you may have.

That is outrageous. 2500 is way a lot to spend, I think my Ethan Allen King Sleigh bed bought 9 years ago (when they were still American made) was about 1300. I am not familiar with Jordans store since I am not in your area. I think the tag is ridiculous. They do not define moving. What you did was not move the bed, to me that means moving it to another room or another domicile, not moving it 3 inches away from the wall. We have moved our sleigh bed a foot one way or the other lots of times (no tag either) and its fine. We do have wood floor so it slides and I generally push it. Sometimes I will pull on the outside corner of a headboard but not usually. No problems. Think of it this way, even if you wanted to disassemble the bed, you would have to move it a foot or so away from the wall just to get your screwdriver in the right location to disassemble, right? I would deny moving it, saying whoever spoke to you misunderstood what you were saying. The reality is you did not move the bed in the sense they mean, which is to another location or room. Is it moving if you shift it away from the wall to vacuum or to retrieve an object that fell behind the bed? Comeon! Also the fact that there is no such tag on the showroom one is a big red flag, you may not have purchased if you knew the bed had to be disassembled if you ever want to take it out of the room. Does it say do not move the bed even an inch on the tag? Or does it just generally say, do not move, if that what it says then the warning is inadequate in any case, especially since there was no prior notice to it being in your house Defintely call again and if you get no satisfaction call the credit card issuer you need to do that within 60 days of it being on your bill, state Attorney general and better business bureau

I like mine because it is light and small. It works well for reading in bed, carrying in the car to read anytime I have to wait anywhere (dr. office, for example). I visit kindleboards.com which is a group of people just as nice as here, and they answer questions and are totally helpful. So far I have downloaded very cheap ($1.50) or free books (I only have 3 so far, don't laugh, some people have many more.) I downloaded Great Expectations, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. The more current books or best sellers are up to $9.99. There are other places than Amazon to download books, some free, but I don't know how to do that yet. The screen is called i-ink or something. It's not backlit like the new ipad. It appears grey with black letters, a little like a newspaper. There is no fee for the Whispernet which lets you download books. You can also make it read aloud, however the reading is by a computer--it's not too bad--but you can download audiobooks as well. I'll stop now. Can you tell I like my Kindle?

I have the 'Touch'--and haven't been able to get to the internet with mine, either (although it's supposed to be possible). I can access Amazon to order books. I've never seen a special offer that looked inappropriate (meaning sexual content or images, nor anything violent). Just a word, though--I'd strongly recommend adding a few $$$ so you can get them the touch version. With that, they can download and play some fun word games (not sure how they'd be able to play them on the basic K), and turning pages and other operations are much easier with the touch screen.

While I don't think books in the printed version will disappear, I do think bookshops are under threat (and I work in one). So many people will come in to browse, then buy the book on line, either as a paper format or e-book. Because our market is relatively small, books in Australia are more expensive than the US or the UK, and when you can purchase from Amazon for less, people will do it. Right now the Aussie dollar is over parity with the greenback (10 years ago we were only getting 55c) and it makes it very reasonable, even with the postage (and of course no postage for e-books). I think people will regret losing a shop where you can come in and browse, check out the content of a book, read a few pages to see if you like the style. But competition is fierce and we, with a main shopping centre street front, heating, lighting, escalators and many staff, can't compete with huge warehouses in the middle of nowhere without these costs.

I use the Kindle app on my iPad but find after a while my eyes become fatigued due to the display, I suppose. I bought a Kindle Paperwhite 3 and love its light weight (easy to hold for bedtime reading) and e-ink screen.

If Reading is all you want to do on a Tablet, Yes, the Paperwhite is the way to go. It is designed to be easier on your eyes and also works great outside where other Tablet don't!
