It's your basic old square oak dining table, likely dating from about 1910 to 1925 or so. That size table was very common ( or should I say "usual") in the farm house auctions I have attended....and I have attended hundreds. That style table is one of the reasons for all the huge linen old tablecloths out there. I would seriously doubt that is in handmade, none others that I have seen were. It's from that "golden oak" era. Some of those olds quare farmhouse tables had 5 legs, some had the split pedestal as yours does. Having the original finish won't seriously enhance the value....so I would strip it and bring it back into daily use. I have one similar that I had cut down into a coffee table....I know!!! But it pleases me more than any new coffee table I have ever seen. It's a great old table, enjoy it Linda C

We also have a square table that seats 8. Typically we have it in it's smaller 40x60 size because there's still only the two of us (for a couple more months!), but with one leaf in, it is 60x60 square. With the second leaf in, it's 80x60 and comfortably sat 10 adults for Thanksgiving dinner. There's plenty of room for the chairs to push in and plenty of elbow room. It's from what I would call a semi-custom furniture company called Canadale. We chose the dimensions, the finish, the edge and leg styles and the chairs. It is really a beautiful table. I only have a picture of it in it's small 40x60 size, otherwise I would post it for you. The only downfall is that it really is impossible to find table cloths for it when the leaves are in. We just use a runner or placemats instead, but if anyone has any good leads for wide tablecloths, please let me know!

I have a 60" square DR table. I used to love my table but now I find I dont love it but I dont hate it. functionally its ok as it seats 8 people but you couldn't really 'squish' anymore around the table due to the sharp corners. Also, because of the size of the table I am having a hard time finding an affordable area rug, I would need a 9x9 which to me would take up too much floor. I cant even find a table cloth for it. You wouldn't have either of those problems though based on your size. Unlike you I have never had a round table and I really want one! here are a few pics..I hope this helps you! "A built in bench won't work due to price and the window in the nook that is only 30" off the floor." I have a 5x4 breakfast nook now where I have an ikea upper cabinet (inexpensive) on the floor for the bench. It is 12" wide and has storage. ikea used to have this on display with a diy cushion that was just some fabric wrapped around batting. It is okay for my kids, but we eventually had a 16" vinyl cushion made for it. The cushion cost 3x the price of the ikea cabinet. It is just plywood topped with foam and wrapped with vinyl. It is stapled. If I had to do it again, I would do it myself. My table is also from ikea and its mounted on one side to the wall and has one leg for extra support. The leg is centered on the table and allows you to easily slide into the bench. It is not an ideal situation, but it was the best we could do with our existing space. I don't think the 3x3 table is ideal. If you like the stainless tabletop, look for something similiar in a longer and narrower size, 30 inch max. How about using a round table? Or a bar height table with stools? You might want to look at some of the "Not So Big House" books by Sarah Susanka for some ideas. I don't care for her style, but her design concepts can be applied to any style. I believe she recommends that windows be 30" from the floor for window seats, and you already have that working for you! Here is a link that might be useful: Not So Big House
