OH OH, another mantel needs accessorizing!!
Comments (28)I love your mantel...that smooth wood is beautiful with your rugged stone FP! I don't think it needs much; a few well-chosen candles might be good. Now - I know you didn't ask about the hearth or the panther or the floor, but here are a few ideas... I love the panther but would probably like it even more placed at an angle, possibly a little off-center...maybe 2/3 of the way across. It would look more natural to me. Even better...move it around every month or so -- it's already a mysterious looking piece, give it a little life by having it wander now and then. I like the idea of the bamboo vase (and I like that vase itself...could you find one for less at Marshall's or Home Goods?). Either on the hearth, or next to the hearth, kind of in the background. I can see some kind of big, oxblood vase or urn thingie on the floor to the left of the FP, set back a bit. Maybe with some kind of dried flower/stick things in it. (Sorry -- I know you didn't ask about anything on the floor, or even the hearth, so feel free to throw any or all of these ideas onto the discard pile!). Comments (34)Rookie - You know I love your kitchen. I agree with Emily - let it happen naturally. I was surprised with my kitchen that little things like dish towels and bowls I already owned are giving me direction for accent colors. I have this great bright/slightly olive green pottery bowl with a bunch of red and yellow tomatoes in it that looks amazing with my gray/white/stainless/natural wood kitchen. I also have some nice darker blue/not quite navy towels that also look great and a vase of sunflowers were "wow". I didn't imagine these were colors that would look good but with such a neutral backdrop vibrant things just pop - real life things not props - in the kitchen. If you really want to find some "colors" - just buy a bunch of dish towels and drape then on your stove for a few days to see how it does....See MoreDining room ready to be accessorized - wanna help?
Comments (20)It will be less light but you have lighting on the side board and in the hutch. Unscrew some of your current bulbs to compare. I'm not an expert so you could ask others about sizing. I think it's got some really pretty details. Should work well with the curves in your furniture. Love the bronze candle sleeves and the shape of the candles in general. I like simple but even I can handle those crystals. If you purchase it and it doesn't work out, I know Build.com/Lighting direct.com has fantastic customer service. You can find coupon codes online too. Try retailmenot.com....See Morehelp!!! I need to choose a colour to go in my living-room /dining-room
Comments (25)Sounds like a fireplace re-do might be a longer-term fix. In the meantime, I'd paint the mantle a dark brown, a similar colour to your end tables. It's not trim and shouldn't be white. It pops out too much in the white colour. Another idea that doesn't involve any ripping-out is to go right over the existing mantle using a mantle slipcover in wood. Here's one of many how-to's on the internet. If you stained your brick as well, you could have a whole new look. https://www.fwmadebycarli.com/2011/01/making-of-slip-covered-mantel.html...See Morejust_terrilynn
