At the end of the year the grafts will either be successful, or the kumquats will take off on their own roots, or the trees will face winter UNPROTECTED OUTSIDE. Well... to be honest, I haven't said anything but truly, what you're doing when you post in someone's message thread with all your photos again, and doing so multiple times is actually called "hijacking a thread". I think the suggestions that have been given to you are more in line with this forum - if you have a topic, start thread and use that thread to update your info, instead of hijacking everyone else's message threads with repeated postings of your photos and your "story". If you look back at the messages in this and other GW forums, you will not see folks doing this. Now, they might share a photo or two, for comparison or education, but to continually post ALL those photos over and over and over again, is getting a little exhausting. Frankly, I'm avoiding certain message threads because of this. Not really the forum etiquette. But, I'm glad you've asked for some feedback, as it will help you to understand better how the GW forums run, and what's considered appropriate and what is not. I'm glad your trees are doing well, and you've developed a system that is working for you. But maybe better to keep that to your personal thread, and update on occasion, so we can see the progress. More than likely the time of year Kumquats are very sensitive to cold and will not take up nutrients or fertilizer correctly. If you can water in 85 degree water to warm roots so they take up nutrients better. With my citrus trees it lessens the Spolshy leaves however it doesn't totally prevent them. Winter is this bad for citrus in non citrus regions. My kumquat tree is crowded in my greenhouse but you can see the fruit on the tree below. Even though my leafs are mainly green they do have yellow splotches in them, they generally go away when it warms up and the tree is able to sort nutrients better. Only other thing I could suggest the green them up is a small amount of epson salt. As far as the type of watering u do I have never watered my citrus that way So I cannot give you advice on that. I water mine by flooding the pots from the top, i have very well draining soil and only water every 3 to 4 days.You can only do so much for them and winter there going to be a little bit unhappy. I chose my fruit trees for fruit that is neither sweet of sour. My favorite Apple is the Arkansas Blacking. Not sweet, not tart, but packed with flavors that I have no words but that I like them. I had a mill sweet lemon. Same as above. I now have a New Zealand lemonade tree from pip that should fill the plate very nicely. I have 14 seed grown red haven peach trees. I like to pick the peaches when they have color but are hard. Nothing beets a crisp crunchy mildly sweet free stone peach. My hardy Chicago fig has been a real success beyond my wildest expectations. They taste very good with their mildly sweet flavor. I don't eat snickers or any other candy or pop. the juice of the lemon will dissolve the enamel off your teeth faster than a snickers bar will. Here on the garden web's snickers forum every one seems to be buying the trees that produce the sweetest mandarins/oranges or the most acid lemons/lines. My portfolio is complete with 2 Fukushu, 1 Meiwa, 2 New Zealand lemonade, and 9 Hardy Chicago fruit trees. Tine to lean back and kick up my feet. The fukushu fruits can be squeezed for baking Fukushu meringue pies and the remaining peal and flesh should prove to be mildly sweet.
