Malwarebytes anti-malware vs malwarebytes anti-exploit?

Can someone tell me....are these the same thing or do I need only one of them? I already have a lifetime subscription to MWB anti-malware but don't know if they do the same thing Thank you!

There not the same in there function, Malwarebytes anti - exploit guards against "0" Day Exploits meaning if a virus comes out today Malwarebytes anti - exploit will be able to stop it or so they say. Do you need it ? That might depend on what Anti Virus program you have because some of them have anti -exploit protection.

I use both. Anti-exploit is free, so nothing to lose.

Zep, thanks sooo much for your prompt reply, and for your link. Wow, you are fast. Think it sure looks like it is a false positive. That makes me feel alot better. I tried posting earlier, but I guess my security was up too high, and was not allowing cookies. I've got alot to learn.... I do have a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, though it says Windows 6.1 build? Intel Core 2 Duo P 7450 @ 2.13 Ghz with 6 Gb ram. I am not having any problems. I just know that your forum highly recommends Malwarebytes. I have used it in the past, just hadn't had time to install it on my new one. I have Window Firewall. Is that good enough? I plan to set up a new Linksys network. I will review some of the posts about setting up a new network. Is Trend Micro Antivirus a good program? I do have a new external HD to back everything up, but I have a question that I will post in a new post. Thanks again for your help.

these are the directions we give for malwarebytes at download # Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. # At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. # If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. # Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. # When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. # Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. # When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt did you do the step that says be sure everything is checked and click REMOVE selected? I personally would never have Norton on one of my computers again been there done that and fought to get all their stuff off my pc and that was quite a challenge. I use Avast free for my antivirus and like it, if I were to pay for one it would be ESET Nod32 which is highly ranked. Always be sure to update malwarebytes prior to running the scans and I run the full scan weekly.

Microsoft Security Essentials has a setting in the rear that helps somewhat for faster scans.. I set mine to limit use to 100% of cpu ... default, if I recall right, was 30%. MSE no matter what the cpu % is set .. seems to always give other programs 1st priority, and sits & waits for the cpu to be unbusy for its little fun fast time slices. Thats probably why it seems to take so long to finish an update or scan. The newer version seems to update fractionally much smaller definition downloads. Which is nice when you push a manual scan!

Welcome... I might run CCleaner again .. it really should take just moments unless you have Tons & Tons of old outdated files. I don't think ive ever seen it run more than maybe 3 or 4 minutes. Thank you both! I'll add Anti-exploit. I appreciate the help.

I'm confused about what to use with Win 10. I have Avast Free Antivirus installed as well as 2 extensions: Avast Online Security and Avast Safe Price. I thought I read somewhere that Win 10 will automatically disable Windows Defender if a third party antivirus software is installed. Is that correct? Am I just as well off using Windows Defender on its own and getting rid of the Avast stuff?

Yes Windows defender will or should be auto disabled if another Anti Virus is installed. In my opinion you're just as well with windows defender, Really it's the same as Microsoft security Essentials. If you decide to uninstall Avast, uninstall it, then run the Avast clean up tool found here==> https://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility

Agree. Windows Defender is sufficient. I do a full scan every week or so, letting it run overnight.

Thank you Zep and Rick. I like this simpler idea. I get lots of pop ups with Avast. Does WD not run automatically in the background?

Anti Exploit protects your browsers and is a very good idea and totally separate thing from the AV.
