Downy April Fresh & Free and Gentle

Normally if I do not use my German or Romanian ;) Euro Lenor Springtime or AprilFrisch.....I buy NON-concentrated April Fresh Downy. It is very thin, and the "new/current" P&G ruined April Fresh scent is not as god awful.

Today while at Ralph's, when I bought the Purex pods...they had tons of laundry items on sale. I bought HUGE bottles of Ultra Downy April Fresh and Ultra Downy Free & Clear. Normally $9.99 each, but I got them both for $9.99.

I did a mixture of about 1/2 Ultra April Fresh, about 1/2 Free and Gentle and some distilled water. Shook well, and put into my large Miele Fabric Softener bottle (it was empty). It smells GOOD. No, not ORIGINAL April Fresh Downy, but for sure has some major similarities!! Happy Laundry day!!!

That's a really good deal, on that Downy. I just wish, they didn't screw up my clean breeze :/

Larsi that's what I do 1 part ultra April Fresh and 1 part Free and a bit of distilled water..I put mine in a huge persil 2in 1 spouted jug, that washed out very nicely leaving no trace of scent from the persil...I also have another persil jug with 1part each Downy Lavender and Free smells better in the lighter scent.

I used Downy for decades without any issues. Then a few years ago I learned about how waxy it is and more likely to cause problems with a washer, particularly if the user does not use the proper amount and do routine hot washes. I switched to Snuggle and was happy with the scent and felt like I was not going to ruin my machine. I currently do not use FS. My intention is to do as dadoes does when we invest in new towels-occasionally use Snuggle. It is a real shame that with all of the formulation changes in detergents and additives that you have to approach doing laundry as a scientist rather than as a homeowner.

Yes, Tide Total Care (now renamed something with Color). Kind of awful in the bottle, but much better after washing and either machine or air drying! We ALL have hundreds of reasons to fear P&G and their scents!!! I smelled April Fresh Downy liquid yesterday at Target, and I cannot believe that it still smells like musty, old lady perfume. How, How could this be April Fresh? I mean, even the gross, sweet tart candy scent from a few years ago was better than today's version. It now smells NOTHING like April Fresh. Sad!!!

@ clean_and_bright.....Can you believe P&G? I was "happyish" with non-concentrated Downy and could even get by using reg. Downy Ultra April Fresh mixed with Downy unscented. NOW, they have tweaked the "April Fresh" scent, so that there is almost no underlying April Fresh scent left. After drying it really just smells like old lady musty perfume that was somewhat washed off, but not really! MAD!! The Sun Blossom smells pretty good, diluted with unscented Downy. I am surprised...I actually prefer the Mrs.Meyer's Lemon Verbena!! Laundry is softer, smoother and the scent is lighter and fresher!!

I know we discussed this a lot, but Snuggle Fresh Spring Flowers is STRONG in the bottle, but after rinsing and then tumble drying, I really like it. And it lasts, so is nice for sheets and towels. Not lasting in an offensive way, but after a few weeks, they still smell freshly laundered. Silk Touch Downy is SO much better than the new pig with lipstick Downy April Fresh Fabric Protect. It sweet, musty old lady perfume. I hate it!!!

Good idea, Larsi! I use Downy F&C. Even the non-concentrated AF version smelled a little strong in the bottle, so I bet diluting it would make it a lot better! I wonder if there is any old Downy AF available? I was shocked, the Tide I got from Amazon was from 2010--but good as gold! Oh, mama, wow!! I don't have an Ollie's (never heard of it), but wow, looks great--those are like the boxes I got from Amazon! I wonder if that Tide with Downy April Fresh smells like REAL TIDE AND AF before P&G messed it up?! Did you huff it?? Is that the current stock?

This box of Tide with April fresh is dated 2010, its white with blue and pink specks...the box dated 2014 is white with blue specks no pink...the 2010 box does smell better..yes I bought it.lol

I never thought the first version of Tide with Downy smelled exactly like Original Downy April Fresh, but it smelled good. Mama is lucky her box from 2010 still smells good. The one I bought 1-2 weeks ago was SO rancid :(

Luckily 2015 Tide with Downy April Fresh powder HE smells really good!!!! So much better than Tide powder. You know what...if P&G realizes one of their detergents actually smell good, they will change it immediately. P&G cannot have anything consumers like. That is verboten!!! Lmao!!

LOL Larsi re: P&G! I agree, that is why I was wondering if this was actually new Tide powder! It definitely doesn't resemble any of their other products. Too bad the old one you got from 2010 was rancid! But, I also really like this new Tide Downy AF powder, and I will stock up now before they trash it!!! Thanks again for introducing me to it and sharing!

Ace Powder (if they sell it) is repackaged, american Tide Powder. It should be the old scent.

It does smell fine..

Mich I do have Ace in the bullseye box that should have been a dead give away to people but I don't think it was..only thing besides Tide original scent..Tide AF original and powdered Tide Coldwater was Ariel Color and Style which I have oh and Tide professional
