bottlebrush buckeye seeds

Greetings, a few days back i collected some seeds of the above mentioned species in the hopes of starting a few for my garden. The seedpods where left on with the expectation that a slight drying would get them to split. All this worked however about a week in (stored in a rubbermaid tub ) i noticed that many of the seeds have started sending out roots and i am wondering what i should do. I had been planing to put them in pots sunk in the ground so that they would sprout come spring but i am a little concerned that the new root would not harden off enough to survive the winter (zone 4). Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
