Keeping clean behind file cabinets in office
Comments (6)I'm so disgusted anytime I move something away from a wall. When we had our kitchen floor re-done, the workers pulled the stove out from the corner. OMG, what a mess. Even though I scrupulously cleaned grease spatters I could see, the wall below the stove height was a mess! I cleaned it up but then the workers put the stove back, and it's been about 5 years, so I'm certain it's happened again! My MIL was very clean. From time to time, she would pull everything away from the walls so she could clean behind. Your idea to put the cabinets on wheels seems super! Let us now what you come up with!...See MoreStone back splash behind range: hard to clean? esp fire & ice
Comments (9)I have rough-face slate behind the rangetop. The only reason I wouldn't do it again is because it was a bear to grout, and it was my first grouting job since a tile project in shop in 7th grade! I sealed it before and after grouting, and don't have any particular trouble...But because my counters are 27" or more deep on each side of the rangetop, the rangetop is also bumped out a few inches. I think this makes a difference on how much splashes make it to the backsplash, so I think the distance, as well as the sealer, may play a part in the ease of cleaning. I know, though, that we've splashed it good with oil a few times, and I wiped it down with water with a bit of dish detergent in it. The sealer I used is from Home Depot. It's called Super Seal: Ultimate Penetrating Sealer. The backsplash has been up and grouted for over a year, and I might have sealed it once since then, but I can't remember for sure. I just looked and the backsplash still looks new to me....See MoreWhat can I put under highchairs to keep pergo clean?
Comments (14)Depending on their throwing arms and how much area you need to protect, if you want something easy to fold up after meals, I have seen those old flannel backed table cloths used for that. You can get a small square 52" one, or fold up a larger one. You can replace them easily and cheaply, also. That is only if you want something easy to fold up and put away after each use. The office mats or Plexiglas also sound like good ideas if you want something there all the time. Those splat mats are cute but expensive. I don't know what it would cost, but you might also consider going to HD or Lowes and asking them to cut a small piece of one of those rolls of vinyl flooring they have. They are long, so you could get at least 2 mats from one piece, probably 3. It is less than 6.00 sq yd and you could get a color to match your kitchen. It might take a few days inside with something heavy on the corners or sides to make it nice and flat, but if you put it out in the sun for a little while it might flatten right out in the heat with a weight on it. Give an extra to your daughter. :) That gives me a good idea. My floor finisher told me today never to roll out my refrigerator onto the wood floor to clean behind it because it will leave tracks, it is too heavy. He said to get a piece of 1/4" plywood to roll it onto when I need to move the refrigerator. I think I might get a piece of that vinyl to use instead. I could roll it up and store it away when I don't need it and it isn't as thick so it won't as hard to get the full refrigerator up onto it. (He said to "just" lift the frige up and put it onto the plywood and then roll it, LOL.) Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Sheet vinyl...See MoreCleaning water under my kitchen cabinet base
Comments (2)The fact you found wood behind toekick indicate's cabinets were built in place instead of setting preconstructed cabinets in place. That almost certainly mean's there is a 2x4 going from toekick to back wall between floor and shelf beneath sink. Water leaking from sink and making it's way under cabinet happen's every day and doesn't cause a problem. I've changed bottoms in sink bases that were rotted out as result of multiple and/or ongoing leaks and no one had dried up afterwards. I wouldn't worry about it....See Morejewels_ks
