Dwarf Magnolia x Genie in a container

I recently bought a dwarf magnolia tree (Genie) from an online retailer. It was ear marked to replace a tree at my in-laws house that was going to be removed. Well long story short they changed their mind at the last minute and I was left with a tree with no place to go. Which was fine because I didn't think they would have really appreciated it anyway. lol.

So I went out and bought the largest pot I could and got it tucked in nicely, thinking that because its a dwarf variety, that if i took the proper allotments that it would be ok until I had a yard of my own to plant it in about 1-2 years. But after doing a little bit of research on how well magnolias transfer (or rather how well they don't) I'm wondering if it will survive.

I live in Zone 6 around St. Louis in an apartment complex with a covered porch and semi protected corner from wind in the winter. It gets good southern light right now.

Is this tree going to make it?
