Question for those with stainless steel kitchen counters
Comments (16)I have them in my kitchen They're 9 and look as good as the day they were installed though they definitely have patina (i.e. scratches) that come from normal use. Don't know the gauge but they are quite thick. They are glued down to a very thick plywood substrate -- they were clamped for 2 days. Very low maintenance. I wipe them with Caldrea countertop cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Thing about stainless is that it can get heat tint and discolor slightly. So I put hot pots on the stovetop, sink grid or on silicone trivets. Depending on the fabricator they can do pretty much anything sinkwise. The guy who made mine is an artist and he managed to perfectly wrap the counter around an upmounted Shaw's farm sink. I had a wood counter for years and much prefer these. I never worry about them and they are so easy....See MoreStainless steel apron/farmhouse sink question...
Comments (9)I have no scratches on the apron of my sink, installed in 2011, but one of my DDs dripped nail polish remover down the front, and the 'trail' seems to be permanent. I've tried cleaners, wiping the whole apron with nail polish remover, even rubbing alcohol, but it's as if the remover took off a bit of patina, and it will never be the same. It's not noticeable--I have to look closely, at a certain angle, but it's still there. A few times I've been aware of a zipper on a sweat jacket making contact, by the sliding noise, so I try to remember to take off jackets before using the sink. I don't wear belts, but I'd imagine a buckle could cause damage. The inside of the sink is a disaster, as I do not use a grid, but the scratches there don't bother me. I actually took a scrubbie to the brand new sink, to christen it (instead of breaking a bottle of wine on it's bow, lol). The same DD mentioned above lost her grip on an iron skillet, so the sink has a nice little dent, but I don't notice that either--I had to look for it when I just checked for scratches on the apron. I'm not too picky about scratches and dings, but YMMV....See MoreStainless steel countertops with marine edge & custom sink - questions
Comments (16)Mj, I am THRILLED we got the ledge! We use it constantly. The sink pictured about is our clean-up sink. The main sink actually has a double ledge - 18" wide for the top one, 17" wide for the lower one. They're 3/4" deep. Our main sink is 46" long, single bowl. Rather than a drainboard, we use the flexible metal & silicone rack thing below. I find it's just as useful, but more flexible since it isn't built in. I bought a strainer bowl and some regular mixing bowls that have the same diameter, and then cut out holes in the white cutting board so that the bowls drop in. This board slides along the lower track so you can chop on the upper board and then sweep into the lower bowl. Or put veggies in the bowl to rinse, then grab from them to chop. There's enough room to put a half sheet pan on the other side of the cutting board, too. Here it is in use for Christmas cookies. We just used the cutting boards to extend the counter space. And with a few cutting boards on top, we used it for setting up Thanksgiving dishes. I could have thrown a cloth over it to make it look fancier, but forgot. In summary: 10/10, A+++, would get again!...See MoreZLine or Rohl or Blanco Stainless Steel kitchen sink?
Comments (1)I will state tha those work station sinks are IMO a PITA to use clean and honestly the parts like the cutting board are too small . Get a good quality stanless undermount with a nce deep single bowl in this era with DWs that can do almost everything IMO no need for 2 bowls but even if you insist on 2 bowls just a really good quality sink no fancy gadgets that IMO just are not functional and are a PITA to store when not in use ....See Moredcward89
