Whenever I have a deficiency that turns my leaves lighter green this product tends to clear it up.

BTW - Don't buy it from Amazon. You can find it WAY cheaper at your local garden supply store. The stuff is cheap.

I grow many of my roses in pots and have for 25 years or so. Just remember not all Osmocote is created equal. I use "Osmocote Plus" which has 11 micros in it. In our heat I also have to water extensively. This is my fertilizing schedule. I use Osmocote at first prune (March 17th here), and then again a light sprinkling July 1st. After that I supplement with Miracid at 1/2 strength when I think they need it ( Miracid = Miracle Gro for Acid loving plants). As a rose friend of mine and I talk about, the Miracid does make a difference. The nutrients are immediately available to the rose. Just don't overdo it.................Maryl

I grow a few rose trees in pots (25), in the past I used Miracle Gro, this year I just put in some alfalfa (being lazy), and they're doing pretty good.

Are you talking about the slow release Osmocote granules that you spread on the soil? If so you might want to use some foliar feeding in between those applications. I have a much shorter season so I put the granules on in the spring (late April or early May depending on the weather) and then again at the end of July but between that I use foliar feedings maybe every two or three weeks apart. Doesn't matter what kind but something. I have used Peter's, Miracle Grow, Spray n Gro and several other kinds. I have given them Miracid before too but not usually. I spray both the plant and the top of the soil in the pot. The granules are slow releasing but the foliar feeds are a quick energy food.

I forgot about one thing, I did use Bayer's 2 in 1 granules for rose midge a few times before the alfalfa.

I'll get some Miracle-Gro tomorrow. How late in the season should I stop with the foliar spray?

Beth---Use the Miracid 1/2 strength and add fish emulsion 1/2 strength. You will love what it does.

Beth: There has been quite a debate in the past if the foliar spray itself is adding nutrients to the rose or if the run off from the spray is what's actually getting to the plant. I've not heard the definitive answer to that. But any fertilizer, should be stopped in your area (Dallas) by about mid October. You could try a few weeks later then that, but that's a little risky since you all can have early freezes just as we can...........Maryl

Beth, Your winter is not cold, what do your roses look like in the winter? If the temp stays above 45F, you'd see blooms. :-)

We very seldom get a freeze before the middle of December and have less than 14 days of below freezing all winter. The roses in the beds didn't go completely dormant last year. I had blooms until mid December. Of course we had unusual weather last winter so nothing was normal. We had sleet, snow and a hard freeze the first weekend in March which is VERY late for us.

That's very warm for winter, cold is not an issue there, the heat is........ we have the cold problems here killing the roses, not the heat.......I keep all the potted rose trees in the garage now, the shed is not good enough here, too old. Here is a photo of the winter here, right after I took the photo I got lost in the woods, couldn't keep up with the group snow shoeing, decided to turn around, seeking shortcut to the parking lot with my iphone google maps.......bad idea! We have coyotes in all the forest parks. It's still beautiful to look at, but lost in the wood is not a good feeling, trust me. :-) The temp was around 10-12F......
