Comments (4)I would be willing to trade leaves for any African varieties you might have. I’m newer to the hobby but I have many different ones I’ve obtained by purchasing online. Many are still small so not quite at the point to cut leaves on most but I could some of them. I would love to have more optimara AV’s if you have others. I have “my delight” and “margit/margit II,” and both of those are strong growers and flower beautifully. Optimara AV’s are very expensive online and I haven’t ordered any from the company directly so not sure how they’d be packaged or arriving at the price most are around $15 a piece that I want. Thanks...See MorePachyphytum oviferum (moonstones)
Comments (36)CCC Crystal Star is not a store or garden center open to public regularly. They are growers and supply lots of plants to greenhouses (if you go to Terra or some others, check the labels - they label their plants, at least most of them). They are N. of Newmarket, so it is about 100km for you or so. They will sell to public, but you need to be careful about walking about not to cause damage, and really you need to buy a few plants to make it worth while for them - they do not have time to spend on just watching ppl. They will not sell all the plants they have - as Kevin already pointed out, many are owner's personal collection and/or mother plants they use for propagating. If you want to visit, you need to make appointment. Plants are not a bargain, but they have quite a selection. It may be best to know what you are looking for, maybe even call them ahead to see if they have the plant? I found lots of their plants at Garden Gallery greenhouse (Bradford or Barrie location), recently bought about 10. This time of year, many places are getting new shipments. I stopped by a smaller GH today, and they had huge echeverias for $8, size I didn't see before for such low (comparable) price. Didn't take pics since I forgot my cell...:( I didn't buy any, but was really tempted. There was good variety there. They has same (and some different) plants in 4" pots for $6, and smaller for $4. Also lots of plugs, but they were same price. They were from different grower, but not sure of name. I was surprised, and will go there again next week. So I would think that it is best to visit frequently (stores that are within reasonable distance)....See MoreMOONSTONES NOT ROOTING?!!?!?!!
Comments (10)Here is pachy beheaded on Jan. 8th. 1. Part of original stem but roots had to go (rotted!-too much water likely). Top was also cut off/beheaded: 2. Smaller plant in front is beheaded top from original plant (#1): 3. Another cutting:4. Few fallen leaves from same time, except the large one with few white roots that is only 2-3 weeks old:They were all callused for a day or two; stuck in a mix of grit, perlite and some turface. Started light watering about 3weeks ago as new growth started. Leaves just a bit earlier since they grew roots and plantlets faster (and I could see them). They are on a shelve in front of W window, but in 'back row' :)...See MoreRotted Moonstones Mystery
Comments (6)It could very well be the mix, with rotting occurring when you watered it. I have what I think is a moonstone, plus one of the similar hybrids, in a shallow community pot with gritty mix and a piece of shoelace hanging out of a hole for extra drainage. The pot has been outside since the weather turned warm in May. It is in full sun after 12, but has never been taken jnside in this very rainy summer. All plants are doing fine. I think the shallowness of the pot, the gritty mix and the extra drainage all work together to keep the plants alive. Of course now I will find them rotted away tomorrow ;-)....See MoreRelated Professionals
