Vodka. It not only helps you forget the greasy, dusty mess, but is an excellent cleaner for old grease! I learned this because of my basically lazy nature and my bad knees. I was standing on a stepladder trying to clean off the greasy mess left behind by the previous owner of my new-to-me house. The grease was in the cabinet above the stove and was made by placing a drippy cooking oil bottle back after using it at the stove. Year after year. I don't know about the rest of you, but around here, cooks of my mother's generation did not refrigerate cooking oil. Some (mother included) were messy pigs in the kitchen (Mom never washed the bottoms of her cookware. Every few years Dad took them out to the barn and used a wire brush on his grinding wheel on them to find the copper again.) So, there I was, on the stool, facing a cruddy mess. Besides having bad knees, I have bad lungs. They do not like any ammonia or other hard-core cleaning products. So even if I had decided to climb down off my ladder to find something to clean with, I was not going to find anything that could do the job, not in my house! LOL! But, wait! There, around the corner of the face frame, I found a little bottle. A little airline-sized bottle of vodka. Now, my ex-NotSoDearH was a chemical engineer and I had quite a few science classes in my time, too. I knew that alcohol was an excellent solvent for grease. So I dripped that vodka on my scrubbie and went to work. Dried-on, baked-on, oxidized grease mess was gone in no time.

Totally agree with cherryblossom99. I sanded, primed (2 coats), painted(2coats) with Pratt and lambert oil based paint 13-14 years ago. Uppers still in good shape, but the bottoms...yuck. Just as bad as the white are the nooks and crannies of the door trim...impossible to clean little food bits/ spills.....they have also yellowed some, but don't think you would get that with factory finish. Now that we are totally renovating kitchen, I am getting natural maple (wanted a change from white but need to keep it light as kitchen is dark) and SLAB doors.....no more nooks and crannies!! Didn't even want Shaker style for that reason....

FYI...... I do my own cleaning in my own home. I have also stuck my head in more client toilet bowls on a glamorous powder room install than you can even count. Elitist I am not, nor is basic daily cleanup of a kitchen, or wipe down of a bath, or making your darn bed. Infirmities aside, nobody is that "busy". For all the angst that goes into any kitchen, any room for that matter; with all the focus on "does this look nice with that and all the rest? Hardly make sense to cruddy up your results. Half the time when someone wants to redecorate? They'd be half there if they simply tidied, cleaned and purged the junk. I suppose that advice is "elitist" too.

I agree the first time I needed to put my hand on the wall would be the rip out time . BTW stacked stone IMO belongs outside if at all there are so many ways to liven up an entry post some pics of yours . You can' tat this stage delete the other post so now you will have to read both.
