Blog that showed the fab kitchen pantry/storage area?
Comments (9)Yes, that part about the W-S is nice! Especially if you have extra long stuff to store. But looking at it makes me nervous. Just a California thing. We look at case goods (shelf units, entertainment centers, armoirs, dressers) with an eye to how easy they are to shake. And we strap them to the wall. Not to worry. I don't know if I can articulate the way to talk to a search engine. I dindn't have much luck searching the Between Naps on the Porch blog itself, though I didn't try hard because you already had. Google used to work primarily on popularity--the more click throughs that stuck (not instant back) the higher the listing. Nowadays they've added an accuracy element that uses past issues of the search terms and things like that as well as straight popularity. So Between Naps on the Porch comes up very high. With that, your inkling that that was where it was, and the overall look of the blog which seemed to be just the right kind of place, I started using Google to poke around in it. The word "pantry" wasn't getting me anywhere, though "husband" seemed to be helping. I pulled some other keywords, like tablescape, out of your post and found it in a few minutes after your second post. Maybe that's the trick? Try to make someone else understand exactly what you're looking for. Then go through what you've said and see what kind of fairly unique identifiers you can find in it. I'm just glad we found what you were looking for. It can be maddening!! And it's a very cool blog. I have a new name for my dish addiction. :-)...See MoreWould this work for kitchen towel storage?
Comments (14)yayagal, thanks for the "yes" vote! martinca, I had first thought of a more shallow box, but thought with the deeper box you would be less likely to see into the box if it was messy! :-) Also with no shelf to put it on, I would have to reach down much further to grab the basket? sameboat, that is a consideration, as I do have some back problems, but with this old house I get to do a lot of bending anyway, so what's a little more? mpmg46, that was my thought too. We will be refinishing these floors soon, and would not want to damage them after taking the time to refinish. lynn, thanks. The floors are original pine. Our house was built in 1868. So some imperfections for sure, but don't want to add any more than I can help. lascatx, hmmmm...didn't think about the cat hair and dust. Will have to give that more thought. I swear my cat should be bald with all the hair I have around the house! Maybe the covered one would be better, but it is smaller. Was thinking the one with wheels and it is bigger but not quite as tall. However I do like the look of the leather strap/latch on that one....See MoreNeed Door Solution for Laundry/Storage area in kitchen
Comments (24)Chispa-I did look on Houzz, but I didn't see that particular photo for some reason. Thanks for posting it. I showed it to the cabinet maker, so we will see. I am not crazy about the slat doors, although I realize they are necessary for venting purposes. Hartwood, Fori, Maggie-I think I am going to end up with them sidexside under counter. I'm not sure if I'm going to have pocket doors built for them, since I suspect they will be left open most of the time anyway. Mags438-What E'Lux set are you considering? I went to Best Buy yesterday and they all seemed to be the same depth, although I did not have a measuring tape with me. The shallower depth would be wonderful, since I have to buy an extra deep counter. I'm planning on doing walnut, I think. So here is the rendering I did of the sxs next to a storage closet. Sorry it looks like it was done by a 7 year old, my PS skills are about at that level. There is a fireplace on that brick wall, I just couldn't find an internet photo similar....See Morekitchen storage options for “coffee nook” area
Comments (6)How you plan to use the cabinet matters. If you want a coffee maker on that countertop, just add an overhead cabinet above the ?thermostat? but would try to minimize open shelving. You might consider a combination of shelf and cabinet. You could add one open shelf (shallow rather than deep ) above the light switch and electrical outlet, so you can reach/use the switch and outlet but leave open the space from that shelf to above the ?thermostat? (if that needs to stay in place). You could put your spices or coffee related items a shallow wood tray that sits on that open shelf. You'd still have access to and use of the countertop. Then you could go ahead and add a full overhead cabinet above that ?thermostat?. You could have doors to access that overhead cabinet from both the kitchen and hallway and either door could have shallow shelves within the door....See MoreL G
