My local HD has the Insinkerator batch feeds on the shelf (I was just there yesterday and noticed them), but maybe cause I am in a big city. But I have heard from several people, and also on this forum, that if HD doesn't have them in stock, and you order it, the disposal will come very quickly (same with Lowes). Also, check Sears, which carries a 3/4 hp batch feed under the Kenmore name. I believe, but am not certain, that it is a re-badged ISE. You can look online to see if the Sears near you has it in stock, or if they don't, typically Sears can get it in 3 days or so (click where it says "store pickup", and enter your zip code). I just checked to see if they had one in my zip code, and the first 3 Sears stores did not, but then the next 3 Sears stores did have it in stock. So if you need a batch feed right away, you can try that. Otherwise, just buy an ISE, a Waste King, or a Kitchenaid batch feed online, and usually websites deliver them pretty fast. I notice that the Kenmore batch feed only has a 5-year warranty, while the ISE's, Kitchenaids and Waste Kings have 7-10 year warranties, so keep that in mind. Having grown up without one, I now can't imagine not having one. We do some composting, although not as much as I would like yet...still a work in progress for us. But, find that there will still be plenty of use for the GD. In our current kitchen, we have one with our single bowl sink (we're keeping the GD but getting rid of the single bowl sink). So, to answer your question, yes, you can absolutely have one with a single bowl sink. If you do get a single bowl, particularly a smaller one like what you mentioned, I suggest trying to find one that has the drain to the back and side. Our current sink has the drain centered, which means that more of the cabinet is taken up down below AND even more annoying is if I have a pot or pan soaking, it's hard to use the GD. You don't need to get a special sink to use a GD, but you do want to do some research about which GD will work best for your needs. Our old one was LOUD! The new one is quite quiet (all things considered).

I don't think youll be able to fit a trashcan on the same side as the garbage disposal. On the other side, it should fit. With that said, I would advise against getting the drawer pullout for the trash for two reasons. One being, if there is a leak, big or small, your access to plumbing is limited unless you take out the entire pullout. And keep in mind where your plumbing is coming in from. Our water supplies were from the floor and out drain was through the wall. The water supply would have hit the back of the pullout. The sink cabinet is our only cabinet that we used doors for. We have drawers/pullouts for every other base cabinet in the kitchen. Two, it is my personal opinion that the workflow is off balance with the sink and garbage being in one cabinet. Generally if two people are in the kitchen, one will be by the sink (prepping, cleaning, etc), so access to the garbage for the other person is limited, unless the first person moves over. But, if space is tight and you can't find anywhere else to put a trash pullout, 'you gotta do what you gotta do!' We ended up using a 12 inch base cabinet with the wire pullout and moving the wire racks all the way down and putting an IKEA trash can with lid inside. Works well and takes up very little space. (also, I can't tell you how much we love our Domsjo sink and Wasteking!) Good luck!

Sorry, for the late reply. I just saw this. No, we've had so many other issues come up with the build that have required all my attention, I haven't had time to focus on this. I do plan to use 30"-36" sinks. I will let the final cabinet layout dictate the sink sizes, so long as we are in that range. If I have an extra 3" of wasted space, I'll go up in sink size, or if I need a few inches for the trash can, I'll go down a couple inches on the sink. The main thing I haven't decided on yet, is whether they'll both be apron sinks or one apron and one under mount. Or, one stainless steel and one fire clay/ceramic/etc? Oh boy, I guess I have a little more left to decide than I thought! I think lead time and prices will point in the right direction on material! LOL! @vevmom, if your island is 10' long, I think the 33" sink will work nicely. That is still less than 1/3 of your island. I think bbtrix's photos above are great for helping to visualize this. (Thanks again bbtrix!) That island is 8' long with a stages 45. You'll have 2 more feet of island, plus a smaller sink. Let me know what you decide.
