How to message RP members

Someone figured this out and posted it, but I cannot find the thread. I'm going to need to do this for the bookmark exchange. If someone would repeat the instructions for me here, I would be very grateful

Also, having the instructions searchable under this subject heading might benefit others in the future.

Hi there

It works like this.

a) if you want to receive messages, you have to enable it in your profile - go to "Your Houzz" in the top right.

b) To send someone a message, you have to go to THEIR profile and send them a message.

It's about as obscure as I could imagine it could be. It's like sending a letter by going to the person's home and posting it through the letterbox. It works, but sort of misses the point.

Having clicked all the right buttons now, my letterbox is open for business. Rosefolly, If you message me, houzz will email me and tell me that I have a message in my letterbox.

I like martin z's analogy, it does seem like going to someone's home and puttIng a note in a letter tray. Then a butler, upon noticing a note in the letter tray, rings a bell. Upon hearing the bell, the recipient retrieves the note from the letter tray. None of this can happen unless the person's home has set up a letter tray and agreed that they would like to get a note put into said letter tray. Very proper.

Below are instructions for setting up said letter tray.

Hi there Karen R, sorry for not responding earlier to your post. Thanks also for thinking of us here in the UK. Like Hazel, I too have looked at this particular eBayUK vendor previously and considered the bottom prices of Â£20/$40 for these small plants a bit too pricey for my budget. I have my original Celadine and the four mystery seedlings from seed last spring which have grown rapidly and so well as to be as big as Celadine in less than 1year. So, I am more happy with my lot albeit a truly minute collection compared to others! Thanks again for thinking of us. Hopefully, someday we will see plumies for sale in the garden centres at reasonable prices as I have yet to see my first one here in the UK. Thanks again, Gill.

How to get messages to mark as read

Are you familiar with opening links 'in a new tab' instead of just clicking on them and then after reading, having to use the 'back' button? I find opening links in a new tab, and then X-ing them closed to be faster than using the back button. In fact, when going to a forum, and in reading the thread titles, I will often choose those I want to read and open numerous ones, all in new tabs. After reading them, I then X them out one by one.

Hi, Everyone! Nanna, I can't find the pattern at the addy you gave - it was about how to sew a straight hem, I believe. I tried searching HGTV and the web for cooling ties, cool-down ties, hot flash ties, etc. - no luck... Thank you all for participating. Yes, the western Pennsylvania bit was a deliberate clue from long ago. Rouan and I don't really see ourselves as being all that much alike. From within a family, you tend to see the differences, not the similarities. I like dogs, she prefers cats; I like books with sad endings, she hates them; I grow roses, she grows herbs. By the way, there are three more sisters and a brother. None of the others are on the forum, though, so there are no more surprises lurking. Pat, thank you for being brave and going first. I think I fixed mine - went to profile and advanced setting and clicked "receive messages from anyone". I had no idea there were so many options for things!
