Yesterday we had a big party at our house, for my 50th B-day. One of the dishes I made was oven roasted winter squash that grew in our garden.

The plant looked like this:

The squash was enormous -- the one I picked was 25 lbs! I peeled it and cubed it and roasted it

I also made:

crockpot BBQ pulled pork

baby yukon gold potato salad

cold cucumber yogurt soup

fresh coleslaw

madras curried lentils

asian peanut miso noodles

The party was a big success. I didn't get a good count of the
people at the party, there were at least 55 people and the party went on
until about 10:00 P.M.

Kat__Va - I know exactly what you mean! That is why these ones a planted in a large pot that has been lined with fabric and then I dug a hole to put it in....now they look like they grow amongst everything else, but I know they are in a pot!! 2 yrs now! These things will take over ANY garden!! But oh so pretty!

Magnificent animals, beautiful pics, Casey! The closest I have come to getting a picture of a Monarch butterfly this year. I have had perhaps only a half dozen sightings of one fliting about in the last 2 months or so. This one refused my pleas to show itself better for a pic. Sure hope it has a safe journey to Mexico.

Casey, we went to Peggy's Cove a few years ago. I wanted to walk out to the lighthouse, but it was so cold I couldn't do it. Very beautiful place.

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. The party was a lot of fun. I enjoy cooking so it was fun having everyone there enjoy my food, and many of them brought wine. We went kayaking on a nearby reservoir the next day, there were beautiful views, but none quite so beautiful as nicole's picture. Thanks for the picture, I've set is as my desktop wall paper.
