i found a home plan i really like
Comments (9)Hi Zoe.... yes, I thought of having that closet accessed through the pantry BUT you'd lose that 2ft [?] of shelving area that's already IN the pantry. And if you leave the closet as a separate closet...then down-the-road you'll still have a closet as an option. In our design process I've got my tape-measure out measuring all the appliances etc. I've learned that on paper a design layout LOOKS like it should be enough space but then it fills up so fast you think '....how could I have misjudged this..??!!" I want my pantry/storage to have a counter with deeper, open shelving above & below the counter that can house all my 'gadgets' ie; Vitamix, food processor, Seal-a-meal... etc. I want to be able to just walk up and take off shelf. I hate to dig into cabinets to dig those out. With the counter in the pantry I'll have to option to USE the appliance right there also. I cook a lot and when everything's left out on counter it really does end up looking so cluttered..although truthfully I'm NOT one of those that HAS to have everything hidden. We LIVE in our house. I looked at your laundry room and thought that the wall with the bench could have more storage options. If you used a pocket / sliding door on the hallway side of the LR you could have some deeper storage come out a 24-30" -- Mop/broom closet etc. The plan doesn't indicate dimensions but do you think there could be room for a small, portable table in the LR..??.. Fold clothes, drop things off as you walk in. That's what I have in our current house. My husband had handyman make one for me out of some beautiful wood. Just looks better than a plastic folding table. Looks like there's room next to the sink to have that 'cat door' installed. I think that's a GREAT idea. Isn't this FUN?!...See MoreNeed help with paint choices two story foyer w/chair rail
Comments (32)I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Forgive the quality of the photos, taken without a flash on my iPhone....See MoreI found the perfect neutral paint!!!
Comments (22)I'm struggling to get good pics without shadows and without bright ambient light. Didn't adjust the photo at all so this appears a bit dark - this is mid day showing a corner, north window immediately to the right and east window further right. It's a true greige in my house. I did not want gray, did not want a beige that could get that band-aid look. Wanted contrast with my trim which is Mountain Peak White and a softer contrast with the ceiling which is Dove Wing. I can show you all kinds of pics with different window exposures but this is the one and only north window in the house!...See MoreI HATE the floral fabric on these chairs, but I finally found a good u
Comments (35)Jinx seeing the chairs alongside the room really helps...and interestingly, although almost everyone has said black would work no one has gone that route in suggestions, which helps too in a way. I have enough of the raw silk on those chairs by the mirror left to do these chairs, and it has a beautiful sheen that can throw off a bit of purple - but I am concerned about durability (see above) and being too matchy-matchy. I am surprised I also really do like the lighter white look when I see it next to the room, and totally forgot but am finally getting real grown up white silk drapes that will frame out those windows properly instead of sitting inside them - so maybe it would be better to coordinate with those? The fabric is a very subtle cream silk tone-on-tone stripe, but I could match the color with a more durable fabric. This is so much help- thank you all again for your time and suggestions here! I do have one more random question, only because you guys are familiar with the space. I have an old, wooden phone booth that belonged to my dad (he worked for Bell South for 30 years). It it VERY sentimental, it has traveled all over the country with me, and it is going in this space somewhere. It only fits in two places. I had intended to put it where that mermaid picture is, but then I bought that crazy huge carved Mexican bookcase. Is it going to make the room too heavy on that side to have two big, blocky pieces of furniture there? The only other place I have for it is in the entry, which means it would be the first thing you saw when you walked in the room....See Morelascatx
