Are you quilting this weekend? 2/25-26
Comments (15)I haven't sewn yet, but yesterday baby & I went to the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest in Hampton. Spent the day wandering, seeing friends, and spending money. Went with a list and couldn't do most on the list, but some. Picked up blacks/whites/yellows for a baby quilt needed the end of March. Got 2 sets of jelly rolls and a purse pattern (not sure which color scheme to use); a piece of batik for a jacket pattern I've had for awhile; and 2 pre-cut mini quilts from John Flynn. I have to say, I'm very anxious to start on these, but I have a workshop in 2 weeks that I need to prep for the class I'm teaching, and for the class I'm taking. I hope to maybe today get borders on a longtime UFO so I can work on workshop stuff. (I'll try to get pictures of stuff & of Show quilts posted today/tomorrow)...See MoreUsing pencils on fabric question
Comments (15)Sandra I use a lot of starch and glue on everything lol!!!!! I even starched the denim blocks I am making. Starch makes it so easy to match seams, easier to baste, and easier to quilt. And THEN I wash it all out! Years ago I used one of the blue pens that washes out, I marked an area and didn't finish quilting it for months (years?? lol) and some had disappeared but most of it was still noticeable. I tried everything to get it out and it always came back. Sooooooooooooo, I learned the hard way to use a light hand when marking and wash it out as soon as I can. First I have heard of the Frixion pen!! Rosa...See MoreWhat Quilting Goodies did Santa Bring??!!
Comments (18)Dh and I decided to spare each other the 'going out to shop for something you may not want or need' experience this year. We've just decided to wait until the mad rush settles down in the stores and go out and buy ourselves a goodie. I need a new purse, and I'm sure to want something quilt-related from the fabric store when they start marking down for clearance. I already bought a new, more powerful sewing machine a month ago......so I'm not feeling particularly 'needy' in that respect. My Dear G'son pulled my name in the family gift exchange, and got me a gift certificate to the local kitchen store. I have to admit I am as addicted to cooking as I am sewing, and I'm sure I'll have fun shopping there....See MoreWere we sold marble when it was supposed to be quartzite?
Comments (40)UPDATE: - So today they came to address some fabrication issues. Specifically markings (made with some sort of white-out marker) made during the fabrication process. They didn't indicate how they were going to get them out (and then reseal with a 25 year sealer (is there even is such a thing?)). They were supposed to address oddly cut corners on a narrow (bar shelf for lack of a better description) that should have been straight on the sides and the demi-bull across the face. What they did was attempt to wrap the demi-bull edge around to the flat sides. Needless to say it looks crappy. They were to address an poorly cut notched corner. 1) Markings.. - HOLY C...!!! What a horrible job they did. I wasn't here but my wife said they used steel wool to get the marks out. One set of marks (looks like the stain from the bottom of quart size can and some words like "Saturday" (or delivery day). What happened was they ruined the factory polishing in those areas. It looks really bad. Apparently the used the same method for the rest of the smaller markings. I don't know what they sealed it with but the previous sealer actually looked good. It had a nice shine to it. This is much duller and you can see even more swirl marks than before. 2) They said there was nothing they could to about the oddly cut edging on the bar shelf. They didn't have any more material to make a new shelf. 3) The other poorly cut corner was actual done well. Lastly, their customer relation skills for this crew (of 3 and different than the other 2 crews sent previously) were horrendous. They were rude and condescending to my wife. So tomorrow I have the job of contacting the fabricator and conveying our displeasure. *I* really want to tell them to issue a full refund and come get the counter tops. Hopefully they will cooperate since they have botched this from the get go....See MoreRobbi D.
