adding growing medium to your garden beds.... crazy???

I have some bales of Sunshine mix #1 that were given to me several years ago. Since I've never dealt with cuttings or seed germination, I've never used it. My kind of gardening has pretty much been restricted to putting established plants in the soil and directly sowing vegetable seeds!

I am wondering if (since it's a good growing medium for certain situations) digging it into new vegetable beds this fall would be beneficial. I'm continuing to dig kitchen scraps into holes in these beds in an effort to improve the soil; would adding this mix (primarily peat moss with a bit of perlite and dolomitic limestone thrown in) be a good idea? Have "heard" that peat moss will loosen soil and has high water retention properties. Since you can hear just about anything these days, not sure about the validity of such statements. LOL

If this is not a good idea, I'd appreciate suggestions about using this mix beneficially. Compost pile?

I'll post this question in the Soil forum also.

Thanks!
