I like that the 1st one has some brown in it... I think that helps... but, I think it looks alittle too bedroomy for a family room-- esp with the distressed leather, rug and the rope lamp. I do like combining 'leather and lace', but I don't think what you have is the right look...

is there a brown toile with some blue/other colors in it that you like?? or maybe use the toile for the bench cushions and get med-dk blue velvet or gauze or some other type of panels??

I have to agree with busybee. The toile curtains that you've chosen look very bedroomy to me as well...doesn't seem to fit with the rest of your furnishings. If you want to add toile to the room, I would suggest using it in the form of throw pillows.

I like the dark blue. It would look good with the floors and isn't trying to match the armoire.

If the light blue is 'off' it will show. A darker blue will look great and work with the armoire, without trying to exactly match the same shade.

All your details look great to me, except that rope lamp. I like the tables, but the lamp seems too bulky. Any other table to put it on? Otherwise, when's the house warming party??? :)

Here are the windows, there are 5 total. The dark wood blinds probably need to stay, though I don't like them.

I have to agree with the others; blue toile is not right for this room. Lavender lass is right about not matching the blues. It will look infinitely more interesting not to. How about a pattern like that in Holly Mathis' room below, which contains several shades of blue in a large pattern which can hold its own with leather?

I would also find another table for your rope lamp, which I love. It doesn't seem to play nicely with the more delicate, curvaceous tables.

The rope lamp is fine....maybe on another table? Or maybe it's just that picture. It looks too big for the table, but I like the tables :)

if you notice, in the room above, the walls are blue and the drapes are brownish which is why I like your own choice of #3 because you have the neutral walls and the blue should be in your drapes and I also LOVE the rope lamp. The more texture, the cozier the room. You've made some great choices there.

#1 I like the colors of the first one but not the images. The Trend toile is part rayon if that matters.

I would order a set of the ready made curtains if they are returnable and see what you think in the room. Personally I love toile and just got the last of fabricguru's Waverly's Rustic Life in Bliss for dining room seat covers. The outline colors are in grey but would have preferred brown but for $5 a yard I am good (edited to fix the motorola's 'spell check' ugh)

k9 - I know, right? Who would think teal but I kind of like it too..and they are dupioni which I love the texture of. Then I could do navy toile on the window seats with ivory velvet pillows. I'm a texture whore :)

What about Covington's Bosporus toile in flax? It brings in the browns, the blues, and the lake theme suggested by the lamp. I, personally, would probably do an IKEA linen drape and trim it out and use the Bosporous for pillows, but it would work great for curtain panels. (I don't care for patterned drapes since I change pillows so often).

What words describe your room when you close your eyes and imagine it finished? Are those words quiet, peaceful, light, airy? Then the first toile would work well. Are you looking for trim, crisp, tailored, classic? Then one of the darker toiles or the navy curtains (like the striped ones) would work. It's an exciting project. Good for you! : )

I just think that blue curtains, whether they be toile or velvet, are wrong for the room. I like the idea that the blue armoire is a single blue item, grounded in the darker blue stripe of the rug.

yayagal linked you to some brown toiles which I think would work great in the room. They are warmer where blue is cooler, and would serve as a great background for the leather.

Your room is developing into what I would call a strong and warm room with the leather, the rustic tables, the rope lamp, the metal light and then a hint of softness with the blue armoire and its delicate legs and curved top.

Blue curtains are throwing off that balance.I guess you could consider a blue and brown striped curtain.

I like your tables very much. I like your lamp(s). But the lamp is out of scale with the tables.

I do like that first toile. I like the lagoon silk. Those are probably my favorites but several would work. I thing the best advise is to go back to the image and feeling you want for the room and let that narrow your choices. The first toile is soft, airy and casual. The lagoon silk still has a light feel but is richer and more formal. That will impact your lamp choice too.

I like #1 & #3 very much. And then there's Bosporus (did I spell that right Deeinohio?) toile. I never stop swooning when I see it! I think that your initial color direction and elements are just lovely!!!!!

Dee - I actually got a sample of that one, but the print is quite large and I guess it's not representative. It looked like mud to me.

Blfenon - aww, say it's not so! I would rather have no curtains than brown ones, so strong is my dislike of brown. Plus, this room is right now brown and it is a bummer. The blue armoire ip against the wall with the opening to the rest of the house, so one won't see it passing by or glancing in. Only when actually seated in the room. So I am hoping for a little more blue than that.

The window seats unfortunatley need to stay. The floor is unfinished underneath and prevailing opinion is that the whole thing would need to be sanded and refinished to remove them. And we just aren't up for it. It's too bad as I don't think they are aesthetically pleasing and they are not particularly functional. But there's a limit. So we will do short curtains and a cushion and some pillows.

laughable - definitely the first description. Actually, I think one descriptor I would add is "feminine". I work in a super male dominated field, and the room started out so heavy and masculine, that I really need it to be a light airy feminine escape, with a little bit of distressed/rustic thrown in for balance.

Lasca - my DH and my mom really like the idea of the lagoon silk. My DH because if given the channce, he always picks the one he interprets as more "fancy". My mom because she thinks that color is pretty. The room will still have toile. In any case, sample was free so on the way :)

Foxes pad - I do admire your style so maybe I should get a bigger sample of the Bosporus before I reject it :)

I think any of the toiles can read as feminine. : ) Are you particular about what is depicted in the scenery of the toile, or does it not matter to you as long as the colors do what you want them to do? The first one is full of little babies playing, which could explain why it's often in nursery designs. One has people of Chinese descent. I tend to be picky about such things, but ymmv. : )

Maybe this is too "safe", but I kind of like the solid curtains with the toile pillows as accents. Like someone else above, I like to change things up, and pillows are easier/less expensive for that purpose than all new window treatments. Again, ymmv!

laughable - chinese people are fine (DH is chinese). All babies has given me pause :) I found this link of pictures of drapes made of bosporous flax. Maybe the pictures don't do it justice, but not loving it :( Still looks muddy to me.

Here is a toile fabric that I have been consider for some time. It has aqua accents in it which might work with your armoire more, although the theme leans Japanese. One thing that appeals to me on it is the pattern is not common, it just seems more interesting (to me). I spent a couple of years going through different toile patterns to find one I liked at a price point I could afford that was not "everywhere." The one I have, the color is called blueberry and I do love it but as I looked at it today, I tried to imagine it with your armoire and the image just did not work well.

I like the Bosporous toile; I'd avoid anything with a white ground. Off white, or tint would be a better solution with a brown leather chair. Oh, but then you have the white sofa. Therein lies the rub, for me: I don't see brown leather and white/aqua. Ecru/beige, but not white.

After sleeping on it, I think I probably should do a solid color curtain. I don't know if silk is too formal. Maybe a medium blue linen? I put the bosporus flax in the pillows :) This looks too matchy matchy to me right now.

Yes to a solid linen curtain. I think you're right that the silk doesn't quite work with some of the rustic/casual elements in the room. Choose fabric for pillows window seat, ,throw, other accessories in the room and pick a blue that coordinates with those.

Pinch pleat linen in french blue? This is RH but I'm sure my mom could make them.

i absolutely agree that silk is not the way to go... I think a solid blue linen could look great and then use pillows and window cushions for pattern. you can always add a cool trim to the panels if you feel you want more 'interest' !

I really like the first toile fabric and don't think it is babyish. I agree in the photo that the rope lamp looks too bulky for those tables. I wouldn't return it though.....find another place for it because I love it. Maybe in real life it doesn't look so bulky. This lamp coming from someone who has two 10 dollar ikea lamps that I bought 20 plus years ago in my family room. I originally bought them for a buffet in a previous home and while the wrought iron is attractive and they have newish shades they are not in proportion to my furniture but hubby and I cannot agree on new lamps that are the right proportion.

I think your room is going to be beautiful, whatever drapes you choose.

My favorite go-to for curtains (including linen or velvet) is IKEA.

I think the texture of the silk (raw silk -- but do you even see that these days? or something with some texture or slub in the weave) would make a difference, but I'm also one who can love an unexpected element or who will step outside the box. It is something you will probably have to see in the room -- or at least see the fabric in person.

I ordered some linen from fabrics-store. Definitely order a sample before you buy yardage for anything like this. The screen colors can vary in their accuracy -- and none will be exact.

Ok no brown. All blue could work - just nothing shiny. And because the window boxes can't be removed you might be better off with a solid, but textured fabric for the drapes with patterned pillows in front.

Yes!!! You misunderstood me. I showed the room with the blue walls and brownish drapes so you would do blue drapes with the neutrals. I love the above.

I have ordered several different pieces. I ordered some of the IL002 damask in natural scrolls, some of the 4C22 heavy weight in blue bayou, and some assorted doggie bag pieces to make some hand towels. Oh -- I have some IL007 thatch checker that I haven't washed yet. I'm anxious to see how that looks once it's washed -- it puckers from what I gather. I'm planning on making a couple of pillows -- or was. Now my sofa plans are on hold and pillows and everything else with them.

The linen is nice and the only thing I would caution other than checking samples for color is that the Jaquard (the thatch checker and the damask scrolls) appear to shrink a good bit.

Thanks - I ordered samples of some different blues. Mostly the all purpose IL019 as that's where they seem to have the best color selection. A few of the 4C22 including the blue bayou, though it looks like it may be too grey. Maybe if I decide on a color, I will order a yard or two and wash it up just to be sure.

The solid french blue is looking really nice. I think if you can find the right color and your Mom can make them, you have a winner. I forgot to ask...have you decided on paint yet? Or are you working with the fabrics first?

This photo is not great, the blue is a little off, but the brown / gold color is exactly right for your natural rug and accessories, and this is strong enough to accommodate your tables with iron bases. It is a Robert Allen fabric---mythreedogs kindly came up with that info after I posted pillows I bought in the same fabric, diff color). The print is larger than the ones pictured in your posts above and is absolutely lovely IRL.

I think curtain panels in this fabric (it is linen I think) would be marvelous in your proposed room. Maybe pillows for the sofa also!

Outsideplaying - I currently have SW Eaglet Beige and SW Lotus pod sampled on the walls. They are both sort of a beige/cream. My trim is a weird color so it was hard to find a paint that didn't look odd.

Kwsl - Oh, I love your pillows so much! I actually looked that up, but worried that it may be too much for curtains with 5 windows and a large/bold print. But I'd definitely consider for the pillows or window seat cushions.

In person, is it more muted or more bright? The representations seem to vary so much online. On my screen, the two I found below look way different than each other and different than the one you posted! FWIW, I like the one directly below the best. Guess I need a sample of that too :)

It definitely looks more like the first one you posted.

I think the print would be brilliant on on pillows and as a 1" or 1.5" trim on the leading edges of solid curtains in a color pulled from the print.

Love this room... if you are still looking at the toiles #1 and #4 are my faves. especially like #4
