Recessed Medicine Cabinet: HELP!

Does anyone have any good resources for recessed medicine cabinets? I'm trying to find a very simple, metal framed, not super expensive, recessed/mirrored medicine cabinet that will go in the existing opening in my wall which measures 13.5" x 19.75" x 4.25" and go figure that there isn't any standard for cutout sizes and a lot of the places that sell recessed medicine cabinets don't even include cutout dimensions which is maddening. I'm desperately trying to avoid having to cut and reinforce a larger hole in the wall. Any help anyone can give me is very much appreciated.

No source for something ready-made. Our lead carpenter made me a 'box', mirrored the back, and put an electrical outlet in it. The 'door' is a decorative mirror hinged onto the box; it fits flush to the wall.

I just went through this same exercise, an din the end, fixed up the old cabinet. Alternative would have been to just cover the opening with a larger surface mounted cabinet or mirror. You can search by, more or less, size on the Home Depot and the Lowe's sites.

How much space do you have between the cabinet and the wall? Did you look at Mirror Mates? I don't know how it works with multiple doors but you could take a look at this. I googled like crazy and didn't find much. I like the frame that Kohler has for the Verdera cabinet - nice simple lines. I was thinking of going that way but this only works with recessed mounted ones and ours will be surface mounted and none of the stains worked. I have been on the hunt for a framed med cabinet and it hasn't been easy finding one that meets my requirements. The back up plan is the tri-view verdera and the contractor making a frame like they have. I am looking at some cabinets this weekend and am hopeful that I will find one that works without having to go with the back up plan. I would just rather see the finished look and save that added time. What brand do you have? That compnay might have something.

Any med cab that is more than 14" wide requires that a carpenter make the studs in the wall "special" like your original house. They simply design the wall supports (studs and headers) to fit around the medicine cabinet. If you look at the triple cabs, you can see that there is no 2" stud between the cabinets. Any wooden cabinet will have a thicker back wall than any metal cabinet, reducing the interior space or forcing the cabinet to protrude further out of the wall to get the same depth. You can chose a cabinet that protrudes out a bit in order to get a deeper, more versatile cabinet, if you do not mind the edge sticking out beyond the wall. I would much rather have that extra depth be usable, not the thickness of a wooden back.

That's pretty much the worst place you could have a medicine cabinet. Medicine stability data is generally obtained at room temperature (60-70 degrees) and low hunidity. "Accelerated" stability is obtained at 90+ degrees and high humidity (just what you have in Florida). Most medicines are not particularly stable under those conditions so I suggest you fine a different place to store them.

This one is 13.5 inches wide. It has a polished edge instead of a metal banded edge, though. The inside is plastic, with plastic shelves. It has a 17.5 inch high cabinet, so you will have to make your hole smaller. It is also only 3" deep.

I would suggest that if you really want to replace the one you have with an actual medicine cabinet instead of using the methods others have suggested, you take it out and feel along the edges to see if you can easily widen your hole. Most cabinets are at least 14" wide. That half inch opens up a whole world of small cabinets to you. If the previous hole is not boxed with wood, you might be able to easily widen and lengthen it to suit a different cabinet.
