Where to find non-standard interior doors?

We are looking for a interior 5-panel solid wood door that will fit a 23 3/4" x 79 1/4" door opening. We checked the major box stores but their special order doors all come in sizes of 22" or 24" widths. Eventually we want to replace all of the existing interior doors on our first floor to match as close as possible our basement doors.

Does anyone know where we can find these? I have looked at reclaimed doors but it is too hard to find enough of them to use throughout the house, and modifying them is beyond my wood working skills.

Go to a real window/door supplier. Everytime I had to have a 'odd' size door or window, I went to this huge place in Flint (a big city). The door company I used could make something like 90000 different doors based on style and then size, and cost was by style first, then size; it wasn't crazy pricing for non-standard.

If I am understanding you correctly, you are measuring the opening of the casing. The nominal width of a 24" door is typically closer to 23 3/4" to 23 7/8", I say typically because doors at Home Depot would be 24" but doors at Lowes would be 23 3/4", I was told the reason being that people so often fail to allow for room for the door to close and open that they simply make them smaller at the factory than they say, and they have been doing that for years.

But, any interior door can be cut down by a 1/2" (including the ones at the big box stores). The problem is that you are going to have to buy the door and trim it down and then mortise out the hinges, and drill the doorknob. A custom door shop isn't going to custom make this door, they are going to take a standard door and plane down a quarter inch on each side. Now if you can get away with removing less you may not have to deal with mortises. There is usually a little play in the doorknob and you can get away with just trimming one side.

If you plan on doing multiple doors it might be worth the trouble to hire someone. Doors are not really that fun.

47 7/8" is awfully darn close to 48", a standard size. 59 7/8" is awfully darn close to 30" x 2, a standard size. Why not just buy the standards and shave off 1/8" with a table saw? On the 41 7/8" one, can you either widen or narrow the opening by 6" to get it to a standard size? Of course, for that cost, you could probably just buy custom doors. Another thought: take your existing louvered doors, cut out the louvers, then add an 1/8" plywood panel on the back side, turning it into a recessed panel door.

As far as purchasing this type of door with the frosted glass it will not be an off the shelf item. It would be considered a special order and I would personally recommend finding a local lumberyard or millwork supply house to order it from and not a box type store (HD or Lowes, etc.) And as Renovator mentioned Simpson is one of the better brands, Jeldwen, Roque Valley and Lemieux would be some of the others

I'd bet that the doors in the pictures are custom. Find a carpenter/workshop in your area that specializes in doors and windows and talk to them. Or get extremely lucky and find the exact size and style of doors you need at a salvage yard.

Even if every door in your house was the same "standard" size they would all be slightly different as a result of the fitting and trimming process. One typically does not go out and buy a door of any size expecting it to fit perfectly into an existing opening. That is why you buy a door that is a little bigger than the opening and trim it to fit. The dimensions you gave suggest that this door started life as a standard 24" X 80" and was fitted to the jambs in a typical install process. Even if you paid to have a 23-3/4" X 79-1/4" door made it is unlikely that it would fit properly without having a professional tune it (and it would be a lot bigger expenditure than buying a standard door). In addition to the fitting process for the door, it is likely that you will have to reposition the hinges in the existing jamb, or you could choose a door without mortises already cut for the hinges and have the hinges set during the install. People think doors of the same size are interchangeable, but they generally are not, at least if you want a door that fits decently.
