How long did your GOOD tractors last?
Comments (51)We have owned our 1970 Gilson since 1980 when we bought it from another family member. It is still running strong. It has just over 1000 hours on the second engine (16 HP Briggs cast-iron one upright cylinder engine). I know the hours because I installed an hour meter when I put the new engine in. The previous owners ran the engine with no air filter and few oil changes. The engine still operates as new due to frequent oil changes, careful air filter maintenance, and an after-market oil filter. I use Mobil synthetic oil. The tractor operates great and mows well. It is my wife's favorite machine. In fairness, it has had a lot of maintenance over the years and our Kubota does more mowing with more reliability. We've repainted the Gilson, upgraded the mowing deck bearings, welded frame cracks one time, replaced steering parts, etc. It is a fun machine to drive....See Moreserrated vegetable peeler for tomato skins
Comments (3)You realize that even though you have not heated the tomatoes when peeling, that eventually they will need to see heat in order for proocessing them. If you were wanting to make a sauce, no peeling is necessary and not a single seed passes through a food strainer like The VIllaware/Roma or Victorio. A quick dip in boing water and then in cold (not necessary for it to be in ice!), the skins simply fall off. Because they contain quite a bit of water, a cold pack of whole tomatoes will probaly float or sink in a canning jar, leaving all that clear liqid behind....See Morefavorite vegetable peeler?
Comments (32)Deana: You are right! If you are healthy.!!!!!! If your immune system is down, like from Cemo and Radiation treatments, you don't want any part of germs. SOOOOO!!!!!you do whatever, to eliminate as many as you can. Also you do what the doctor tell's you. My wife can't even go to Bingo, or Church when getting treatments. Can't be near anyone with colds. Naturally there are germs everywhere. Annie: you're right too! I do the same with tomatoes. Fenworth : You are right too. I wash the potatoes first. Take a slice off one side and stick the fork in and slice away. Then I wash the potatoes again when I'm done. I suggested the fork thing a while back, just for all the members who complained about Arthur in their hands. You are all right . Guess I'm just tired from all the running I've been doing lately. I apologize to everyone. Now, I will have to see where I started trouble in the other threads. LOU...See MoreWhen You Use Your Vegetable Peeler do You....
Comments (39)I peel towards me with just about all fruits and veggies. The one exception is carrots...I just scrape those. The new age peeler I'm curious about is the "Titanium Peeler" I think it is called. You can run it back and forth, it peels both ways. Anyone heard good or bad about that peeler?
