Waste king disposal installed - now drain is slow!
Comments (8)Elliott B - if the rubber shield is causing a problem, you can try running it in the dishwasher a few times to soften it up. Alternatively, you can use scissors to snip a bit of the tips off to widen the opening of the shield. A totally different solution is to get a batch feed disposal instead of the continuous feed disposal that you have. A batch feed disposal does not have the rubber shield at all, but it operates differently than a continuous feed disposal in that you feed it in batches, rather than have it be on grinding until you turn it off. Many people like the batch style disposals, but it's a personal preference....See MoreSlow drain in bathroom sink (x-post)
Comments (7)For my reno, they replaced a number of the old pipes with copper, and they had to move the sink pipe over a few inches to accomodate a larger sink; that had to be cast iron. They didn't replace the main pipes that run up and down between floors - just my "off-shoots". The sink ran fine for the first month or two - it's just the last couple of weeks that it got slow... It will make me CRAZY if we have to open the wall to do anything with this since the work was just done!!! It is interesting to me that running very hot water seems to clear it up, but then it gets slow again. What would account for that??? Initially I thought it might be some sort of soap clog that the hot water was melting through, but maybe not pushing all the way down... does that make any sense???...See MoreInverted trap and now sink drains...why?
Comments (1)A greater vertical distance between the surface of the water in the sink and the top of the curve of the trap will result in a faster drain flow, all other factors being constant....See MoreMoving kitchen sink drain in slab - will house vibrate much?
Comments (16)Hi there, would anyone mind giving me a ballpark figure of what the slab-smashing, drain-dragging might cost? My husband and I totally remodeled our last kitchen, we had a crawlspace then, for $16k in 4 months. We had it down to the studs & subfloor and took out a wall. We bought a new house over the summer and it's on a slab. After living here for a couple of months we can see that the floor plan of the kitchen, living room & dining area doesn't really work for us. But since neither of us have ever lived on a slab we don't know what to expect if we did it ourselves, or if we would have to have someone come in and do the work. So, any info you have with respect to who did the work, what got moved and how far, and what that part of the remodel cost, would be very helpful. Thanks!...See Morenilanjan_p
