Marble Queen Pothos - how much light?
Comments (26)Lennie...sounds like fun. Are you saying all campgrounds are off limits now? Sheesh! We used to go camping every weekend..we found an 'unknown,' secluded area to set up our little tents. :) The area resembled an island..we named it Cujo Island, after our dog who loved swimming in the Des Plaines/ Kankakee River and play with the beavers in Channahon, IL. We had so much fun. I made breakfast, lunch and dinner on a 1.99 metal grill. Couldn'd do it anymore though. The meals were delicious. We used old wood, not coal brisquits or gas. We do not hunt in the literal sense, but we used to hunt for wildlife..to look at...not harm..sorry. :) Lennie, I have relatives in MI. As a child, we'd visit my aunt, uncle and cousins in Allegan, MI..Ever hear of Allegan? They had a beautiful farm. Think I was 4 or 5 when we first started visiting, that I remember..I also think, browsing large fields of greens initially got me hooked on plants. lol I remember standing in one field w/zillions of berries. I snuck inside, awestruck. Anyway, MI is a beautiful state. Well, at least cities, 'I remember Kalamazoo,' not too far from my aunt and uncles farm. Don't know if it's changed. My aunt and uncle passed away several years ago, but cousins remain in MI. When my uncle was diagnosed with cancer, they sold the farm, then rented. She once confessed how much she missed the farm. Sorry, talk about ranting. lol. Funny, we went from Pothos, to camping to MI. You're lucky you get to travel. Toni...See MoreGolden potho
Comments (12)I've never seen spider mites on pothos myself. I'd consider the yellow leaf one hundred percent NORMAL for a pothos acclimating to a new environment. The plant has taken steps on its own to shed a leaf or two to accomodate for the change in location. It's not a sign of mites or disease. Pothos thrive in plenty of light but do avoid full sun, which may burn the foliage. Your plant will be more stocky and colorful in a brighter location, but many people are happy to place them in low light where they will languish for many years with few problems. Watering is easy.....allow to dry out quite a bit in between drenchings. Don't give little sips whenever you feel like it, or when the top looks dry. On watering day, take it to the sink and slowly drench with water until the excess runs freely from the drainage hole, then water again. After a good drench, the drying cycle can begin again. WE cannot tell you how frequently you should water. That will depend upon the humidity of the room, temperature, air circulation, type of container, light duration and quality, time of year, etc., etc. Don't forget that you'll need to fertilize occasionally. Do some research on that and other factors on your own, when you have time. Pothos is an excellent plant to learn with....See MoreGolden pothos new leaves dying
Comments (11)Possibly a soil minerals related problem. If it is growing actively now maybe you should fertilize it. It wouldn't be expected to do well without any fertilizer at all. A typical annual routine would be frequent watering plus fertilization in summer, with greatly reduced watering, no fertilization in winter when the weather turns dull and the plant becomes less active. With re-potting into a larger container filled with fresh potting medium in spring, as needed. (Also you don't want to leave the base of the pot sitting in water for extended periods)....See MoreWill my golden pothos ever look like it once did?
Comments (13)As leaves form along a branch or stem, they're a 1-time thing. IOW, no leaf will ever grow from the spot where the original leaf was attached. The best you can hope for would be a new branch/ vine growing from dormant/ suppressed buds arranged in a row above the attachment point of any leaf. The only way to make certain new branches will form where you want them is to prune back to just above the node where you desire a new branch/ vine to grow. Example: This rooted Ficus cutting was pruned above the lower 2 leaves. This forced activation of buds located immediately above the mature leaves' attachment point. While these activated buds might appear to be leaves, they are actually new branches which will, also produce 1-time leaves along its length as long as the branches are extending and the tip of the branch remains in place. When the tip of the branch/ vine is removed, extension of that branch/ vine can no longer extend. The compacted soil and the holes/ tears made me conclude too soon that a Ca deficiency was in play. Had I known about the caterpillars, I would have not mentioned the Ca deficiency, though the grow medium adds considerable support to that line of thinking. What IS that medium? AL...See Morejamilalshaw26
