Comments (17)I wish they had kept it in Ace stores. I like y Ace store, but I won't do business with either of the stand alone paint stores within a reasonable driving distance. Their hours are short, they may or may not be open even then (drove up to find a note on the dorr saying they'd be closed all day because no one showed up to work), they don't have color swatches or folders available (guess they only want to deal with pros who use enough paint to buy fan decks) and we were chased out of the store when it was 5 minutes prior to the closing and they were still mixing paint for a customer. We only wanted to pick up a couple of chips in known colors and would have to come back later to buy paint anyway. That was enough to chase me away. I haven't bought the Ace paint either -- don't like their colors, so for me at least, it doesn't seem to be working out too well for either side. But it makes me smile that BM is in OSH stores -- we still have the wagon we bought at OSH when our boys were little. The inside has rusted and I want to paint it, but I don't want to lose the OSH on the outside. When I run out of other projects, maybe I could make a stencil so I could repaint it. Comments (30)Before adding any product to the entire wall as a backsplash became "a thing", most backsplashes over countertops were a single four or six inch high row of tile w/rounded top edging either on the tile or separate rounded trim piece. Wall tile was usually reserved for behind/above/around the stove. The wall above that four or six inch row of tile was painted or wallpapered, enabling easy hanging of trivets or spice racks or bars with hooks for cooking spoons, etc., so, if you're undecided about your backsplash but, short term, want to protect the wall from any spills, you could always go with that retro idea -- something which would be easier and less costly to replace than a mistake made because your hurried the process....See MoreBenjamin Moore Metro Gray or Smoke Embers?
Comments (3)Both of these colours have the potential to shift purple-ish in imbalanced light. They are from the neighbourhood on the colour wheel where low Chroma (near neutral) colours can be impacted upon by an imbalance in light wavelengths to shift lavender/violet/plum. It doesn’t happen in every space, but its important to sample to see how they will behave in yours. Don’t paint directly on to the walls, use foamboard or paint,peel,stick decals so you might move them around to view on different walls. Of the two, Metro Gray is more likely to shift colour, as it sits more deeply into the zone of potential colour shifting near neutrals. It also is the more neutral of the two colours, so has less of its own inherent colour to withstand changes in light. If you find both shift colour and you don’t care for the result, try a somewhat similar colour located nearer to or even past the 90° point on the wheel. 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoMy client wanted her stairs done in a Low to flat polyurethane to mimic her hardwood floors. I chose BM Stays Clear, FLAT on the entire staircase.The stairs are pine, the landing newels are a combination of red and white oak glued together down the center.. They turned out great. Note the newel ....this is probably what your white oak floors will look like...only better. This newel has about or more than 5 coats of plolyurethane. Love this product. Once tried an oil based polyurethane .....and had to redo the work as it gave an amber tint to the floor .....great if we wanted that look and noticed that any pooling looked Orange. Any seams gather excess, so an oil base on a very light flooring is not kind. PS. I added some color shadings on the treads before applying the Stays C;ear In order to hide the many flaws.

2 months agoI used the BM stays clear on top of a table i built, then did light coat of white stain to prevent the pine from yellowing. i wasted time trying to use minwax polycrylic and it kept bubbling, watery, thin. Ive made and finished furniture over many years using minwax oil based polyurethane with beautiful results. but i really wanted a light and non yellowing finish with this table. after many attempts and sanding/statting over, i finally bought stays clear BM. i was instantly in love. it went on so smooth and provided a glowing finish more similar to the oil based, but without yellowing. i think i ended up doing like 8 coats tho with light sanding in between. 5 years later the table is still glowing, so so beautiful, dont think its yellowed at all. when people come to my house they dont really notice the Other furniture ive built with darker stain and oil based poly. but everyone tends to be so amazed by the finish on this table.
now we are renovating and doing wood floors in a newly built master bedroom, closet, and play room (will cover with foam tiles). I’m considering having them make the floors with finished pine plywood just like my table. certa certainly would be unique. hoping ben moore stays clear is stong for floor (will use gloss).
anyone know if it holds up on wood floors over time?
